I had a long discussion with my friends, And we came to this conculsion that we are in the Shitter(need immigrants to come here) cos most chinese couple are either childless or only have one Child. I think most chinese only care about money Money money and by the time they are ready, the females cant have babies.
Indians and Malays on the other hand are not really interested in being Rich, just being content with a roof over their head and ability to put food on the table and just have alittle bit extra on the side. Chinese are more interested in buying a car with a pay of 2k..
What do you guys think?
Cost of living and stress and money are the factors why couples put off for having babies.
A decent household salary around $6k already got financial problem having a 2nd child.
come to think about it, generally speaking maybe yes.
Its got to do with the supposed Singaporean dream of the stupid 5 Cs.

Got so high meh?
I think if parents know how to limit their budgets they won't have this kinda problems.
These days they can say they got no money...But the next time you see them they'd be blinging themselves with something new. I think these kind of attitude is okay for youngsters but definitely not the parents.

and face also.
If a couple can afford to live condo, can they love in 5 room hdb? Can afford to own a car, can they take public transport?
Agreed with Deino that it also play a part in putting babies off for they want face and they want to be better than their colleagues and friends.

Yesterday talked to my neighbour, she told me her son (household income $6k, got 1 kid, live in 5 rm hdb, own a car) and yet, hardly save evry month. If got another baby, they will be tight squeeze.
How true, I am not sure.

damn...maybe the problem lies with the car lol...
i live with my parents and two siblings in a 5 rm hdb with no car. I don't think our income is anywhere even near 6k.
maybe if they know how to spend their 6k more wisely like not spending things more frequently on brand new LED tvs and stuff they could be in a better position...then again, who am I to say..we humans are always tempted with new stuff, we just wanna come home to enjoy...

Ya, me too, no car too. But with few kids now.
Life stress and saving very very little.
Ya, probably if pple can change their lifestyle, amend here and there...but who wanna forgo their lifestyle for a baby?
I know of so many young non-Chinese couples, earning 3k to 4k(Husband n Wife) and have already 2 kids.
And they are living comfortably in a 4rm hdb house. No problems
They dont go for cars and holidays to Europe but still live happily as a family.
times are different. expectations are different.
i have 8 siblings. my dad brought us up with a bus-driver-salary. in the past we played with and used things that cost little. (marbles, kites etc)
look at the present generation. ipod, itouch, xbox, PCs etc. even the bags the students carry are branded stuff like converse and nike etc.
unless parents are willing to sacrifice their wants (cars, trips, branded stuff) and stop using the i-want-to-give-my-kids-what-i-wanted-but-my-parents-couldn't-give mentality the marriage and baby problem will never go away.

I am sure those age group is around 30s to 40s.
Those around 20s to early 30s are putting off from having babies.

Agreed with the 'want' factor.
Its a problem for all developed countries. Once you reach a certain level of prosperity, everybody wants to just make money instead of making babies.
@likeyou.... There are all in their 20s just like myself. Latest dude to get married is earning 1.8k and wife is earning 1.6k, just got a 4rm flat. Husband rides a motorbike instead of a car. Like i said this people are mainly non-chinese.
well, TS, just another point of view. (no offense to any).
In the past like 80s or 90s or even early 2000s, I don't see other ethnic groups besides chinese owning a car. or if they own a car, they would own the lower range ones. For example, when u think of proton, which group would you think of? but recently, there is a big change, if U check, more of the other ethnic groups beside chinese are driving mid or even high range cars. this implies the more and more are getting educated, and with that, they are finanically wiser, and hence, better planning and more comfort pursuit be it travelling or bigger house.
also, they want to reserve their bests for one-two children at best. also, some of the ladies want to keep in shape too.
hence, it is not only one ethnic group that is not providing but a more general problem.

Most people, including myself, are still studying in the 20s lol.
i agree with ts
all the blackies, ie malays, bang-lahs, pakis, ka-laings have uncontollable sexual urges and will have sex with anything on 2 legs
thats why malaysia, indonesia, india and pakistan got so many cases of fathers raping their own daughters
singapore should follow this trend to increase its population,
1 - make rape legal
2 - make incest rape legal
3 - make child rape legal
I think it's a lifestyle choice
Our combined income is well... more than 6k.
We don't indulge in branded goods nor do we keep upgrading our electronic items
We live in a 4 room flat, no car and no kids. We are not living near our parents and both of us travel a lot for our jobs and can be for extended period of time.
We don't believe in leaving a child with a maid etc so we don't have one.

interesting, what will consitute a suitable environment for you to have a child? U do know biologically, we can't wait forever.
I cant quite agree you on that @icefatboy, from my observation this minorities weather they are more educated or more well off now, seems to be still marrying earlier and having more kids.
Every month at least 1 or 2 indian/malay wedding invitation is send to my house, Chinese friends wedding is more like Once every 3 or 4 months. Most of my chinese friends are mostly single or childless or have only 1 kid.
Thinking about it again.... Let me look at my 4 neigbours which is just next to me... 1st house-Women is in her 40s and she is childless, 2 doors down-Couple in their late 30s only have one kid who is in sec school. 3 doors down - couple has only 1 kid who is going to N.s soon and all are chinese.

thats why i said the minorities in singapore cannot control their sexual urges. it shows in the statistics. all crimes of sexual nature or otherwise are comitted by minorities

There you go!!! you dont have a child cos of your lifestyle of travelling abroad. Only way is to stop what your doing(Your salary will be effected or you will lose your job) So for the moment is it right to say, that you are choosing not having a baby because of work? Cos work = money.
