When asked by a netizen Angela Xu on the PAP’s plans to address the tensions between foreign manpower needs and building a Singaporeans identity, PM Lee replied:
“We won’t bring in too many foreigners too fast. We’ll work hard to integrate them with our people. We are not planning to make a 6+ million population. Not trying to get there. Dont worry.”
PM Lee’s comment appeared to have contradicted his original stance on the matter in which he urged Singaporeans repeatedly to welcome more foreigners.
During a National Day rally speech last year, PM Lee said:
‘Let us welcome them (immigrants) with an open heart, help them to fit in and encourage those who will become citizens to strike roots here. If we do this well, by the next generation, their children will be native Singaporeans.”
The sudden U-turn by Mr Lee does not change that fact that the PAP has planned all along to bring in more foreigners with PAP candidate for Tampines GRC Mah Bow Tan saying way back in 2007 that Singapore needs 6.5 million people.
More importantly, PAP de facto leader Lee Kuan Yew proclaimed only last week that the PAP will still be bringing in more foreigners:
“Please remember: We still need 900,000 foreign workers on work permits.”
Singaporeans should not be hoodwinked by Mr Lee’s last-minute sweet talk for a desperate man will make all kinds of promises that he will not be able to fulfil.
90,000 grateful new citizens will be voting on 7 May after which 900,000 may be voting five years later.
[From Temasek Review]
The PAP will decide how many foreigners is enough, correct?! They certainly did a great job at that in the past 5 years
"wont bring in too many too fast."
that means they'll continue to bring in. not too many but still many right? not too fast but still fast right?
does that mean the current foreign population is expected to rise further?
Abaden?
You really need to dissect what they are actually proposing. What does "too fast" mean, and is "too much", who decides
how many is "too many"
ok. so they won't bring in too many foreign workers. so does that mean that they will just only bring in many foreign workers?

Yup, PM Lee is still letting the foreigners in. He should be sending them home.
He meant not within this six months.
He have already screwed up with his arrogant and hard headed team.
His famous message: Moving forward, Leaving No one behind.
But, those that are in opposition ward are left behind in term of upgrading even though they pay their tax.
It is wrong time to play the sympathetic card as all the sufferings are partly due to the policies that you have approved.
Will life be better after you say sorry and no solution implemented ?
I dun think you and your team will hear any one with your million dollar salary and bonus.
You will be busy trying to fix us after you won your seat.
All the listening and take care will be thrown to the dust bin again.
You believe him?
When the emperor is wounded, he says sorry.
He even get his papa to say sorry to certain community for certain uncalled for remark.
But when the emperor regains his full armoury, might and regality..........
History is a good teacher, always repeat its lessons but human being dumb students
never really able to learn these lessons........
I believe more tax and price increase are on the way if we do not vote any opposition into the house.
Leopard never change their spots.
The team are there for the money and bonus and worked hard to come up with more scheme to get more revenue.
What kind of leader will result in what kind of followers.
These two weeks have malu most of them with "brilliant" track record.
They will come back with a revenge.
No, they have lost the respect and trust from me as most of the policies that they have implemented have made the people suffered and made them richer.
We have given all the feedbacks that they can "listened" and "improved" but they have defined alternative method as a negative tone and choose to ignore it.
If they have failed their BASIC task of taking care of the people, they should move on to private sector to make more money.
PAP election strategy has changed from
"Trust us and our track record" to
"I'm sorry, We will this, we will that".
Not forgeting that they are seated on $500 chair bought by our tax money.
Can a leopard change its spots?
Nobody farked the PM live online?
I really hope to see PAP lose 20 seats on Saturday.
We all know, we cant trust the PAP. They have again and again told us to accept more foreigners into our country.
Suddenly, a few days before elections, they suddenly change their opinions and say they are not going to bring in so many. People, its just a election ploy, dont get tricked into it.
By right, he is not a office bearer at the moment.
You will be arested for being rude to him and you will be "take care of" immediately by his Highness.
It should be "controlled live" environment so he can "handle" all the questions on his script.
heard them cry wolf too much
how abt PAP lose all remaining seats and NSP become govt wif 24 seats? imagine Nicole as part of the govt...wad will she be? prime minister?

hope singaporeans see through this and think long-term: the next 5 years are at stake. without alternative party in parliament, PAP will fall back to its old stance. power to the people comes in 5 years. pls treasure our vote. please treasure this opportunity to make a change.
2006 Election aftermath
What do you think was on voters minds when Lee Hsien Loong decided to increase the GST to 7% and increase ministers pay shortly after he was given a strong mandate the 2006? When he campaigned for a strong mandate in 2006, his message was he will take care of the poor, look after Sngaporeans and address the widening income gap. But the moment he got into office his priority was to increase GST and increase his ministers' pay.
Now that it is election time he is saying the same things again - that he will take care of Singaporeans and help those in need. These is only one intelligent line (and countless unintelligent ones) I remember from George Bush:
My personal experience in my previous coy.
Knew this PRC guy who studied in NUS on FULLY PAID scholarship. FREE lodging, FREE allowance, FREE tuition fees.
Only 'bond' he had to serve was to work in SG for 3 yrs. No need to be any specific coy. Just need to work in SG for 3 yrs.
After just 1+ yrs, he packed his bags and went back to China to work for an international bank.
I can't even afford to stay in the uni's hostel and experience uni hostel life. Yet this guy gets to come here FREE EVERYTHING and then pat his backside and went off to China just like that.
I'm a 2nd class citizen in my own country!!!! I feel betrayed, forsakened and used... best of all... I feel a stinging pain in my backside...
Edit : Just to add, he was AUTOMATICALLY GIVEN a PR when he grad
I do hope people can treat the issue of influx of foreigners as high priority.
The foreigners that came are not always inferior stuff, many of them through will power and tenacity have risen to managerial levels.
Underestimate them at your own perils.
Housing values, amenities and all other topics paled in comparison to this.
talk so much....people still vote PAP. We wait and see.
