MOUNTBATTEN single-member constituency is set to face a three-corner fight.
The chairman of private school Stansfield College Kannappan Chettiar, 49, on Tuesday told The Straits Times that he will stand in the ward, contesting against People's Action Party's incumbent Lim Biow Chuan and National Solidarity Party's Jeanette Chong-Aruldoss.
He said it was a difficult decision to make because he respects Ms Chong.
'I've got great respect for her and admiration because she's a mother. Having seen my mother and having seen my wife doing all the work they do and to have a family, I think she'll make a great person for the people,' he said.
But he decided to contest there because he wants to do something for the people he has met there.
If elected, he said he will tackle issues concerning older Singaporeans and tapping their expertise, and also rising property prices.
'Property prices have been escalating in Singapore at an alarming rate. What is extremely worrisome is that in the last many years, these prices have risen disproportionately to the rise in per capita income,' he explained.
'Even HDB flats are likely to hit the $1 million mark in the near future unless the government makes affordability of housing a top priority. The PAP government should review the government policy relating to housing and other rising cost concerns of Singaporeans,' he said.
Mr Chettiar, since you want to address the issue on older Signaporeans please join SDA and Mr Ng Teck Siong revive the fight in Tanjong Pagar where most of the elderly Singaporeans are.
Spoiler.
Wait he lose his election deposit then he know. If he is rich or got sponsor, then ok for him lah.

Huh- so is it a 4 cornered fight?
NSP, PAP, Kannappan Chettiar, Zeng Guoyuan. Doubt Zeng is actually contesting.
Joo Chiat no more 3 corners!!!
Independent candidate, Andrew Kuan, told TODAY that he would not be contesting in the General Election and will not be submitting his nomination forms tomorrow.
He was supposed to contest in Joo Chiat Single Member Constituency and would have stood against the People's Action Party candidate, Mr Charles Chong, and possibly the Worker's' Party's Mr Yee Jenn Jong.
Mr Kuan said: "I do not want to be involved in a three-cornered fight. I spoke to my wife about it and my family is relieved that I will not be contesting in the General Election. I have not consulted any Opposition parties on my decision."
Please avoid 3 corner fights...

Good News!!!
The chairman of private school Stansfield College Kannappan Chettiar, 49, who was expected to be part of a three-cornered fight in the Single-Member Constituency of Mountbatten has pulled out of the contest.
The other two candidates slated to contest the SMC were Ms Jeanette Chong Aruldoss from the National Solidarity Party, and Mr Lim Biow Chuan from the People’s Action Party. With Mr Chettiar’s withdrawal, the SMC will now see a straight fight between Ms Chong and Mr Lim.
Below are the statements which The Online Citizen has obtained from Mr Chettiar and Ms Chong’s
Kannappan Chettiar :
I believe in a good, stable government; a government which embraces diversity. I believe that we need a first world parliament. I am concerned for the future of Singapore.
I have gone through Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss’ vision for Mountbatten which says that she envisions a Mountbatten which is “clean, green and well-maintained constituency, vibrant in social diversity yet strongly bonded, its people a community of engaged citizens having a deep sense of belonging to Mountbatten and to our nation”.
My vision for Mountbatten, if I am elected, aligns with the vision that Jeannette has for Mountbatten. I believe that Jeannette is the best choice for Mountbatten. Jeannette is a working mother and I have the greatest respect for all working mothers.
I fully endorse Jeannette’s candidacy and will support Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss’ bid for the single member constituency of Mountbatten. With Jeannette as the likely MP for Mountbatten, I am fully confident that ‘Singapore will be for Singaporeans’ and I will not be contesting this General Election.
Jeanette Chong Aruldoss:
I welcome Mr Kannappan Chettiar to join me in my campaign. He is a self-made businessman who has achieved a lot in his life. I believe he will bring his ideas and experiences to help me. I appreciate that Mr Chettiar is a man of ideas and ideals and want to give back to the community. Mountbatten voters will benefit from such a resourceful person joining my campaign. I hope to get his assistance in rolling out the community programme if elected
look like no more 3 corner fight. Should the independents decide to fight then join a team to challenge Tanjong Pagar GRC. Your challenge will be most welcome by the voters there.
