SINGAPORE: After
experiencing walkovers in the last three general elections in 1997, 2001
and 2006, the Marine Parade GRC seems set for a contest in the coming
polls on May 7.
The National Solidarity Party's Secretary-General
Goh Meng Seng said on Facebook, that the party plans to mount a
"historic" campaign in Marine Parade.
One of the NSP's candidates is 24-year old Nicole Seah.
Senior
Minister Goh Chok Tong, who is the anchor Minister for Marine Parade
GRC, had recently welcomed a contest by the "NSP young ones". Mr Goh had
said that it was good if they started young to serve the people.
The
Marine Parade GRC team for the People's Action Party will also include
Dr Fatimah Lateef, Mr Seah Kian Peng and two new candidates,
Brigadier-General Tan Chuan Jin and Ms Tin Pei Ling, the youngest PAP
candidate for the 2011 General Election.
Two incumbent MPs, Mr Matthias Yao and Dr Ong Seh Hong from the PAP are retiring.
Following
the electoral boundaries review committee report, the MacPherson single
member division and parts of Joo Chiat have now been absorbed into the
Marine Parade GRC.
On Nomination Day, papers for the Marine Parade GRC will be filed at Tao Nan School.
There are 154,340 voters in the Marine Parade GRC.

GE: NSP unveils five new candidates for Marine Parade GRC
Posted: 20 April 2011 2243 hrs
SINGAPORE: A
24-year-old advertising executive is among five new candidates that the
National Solidarity Party (NSP) is introducing to contest at Marine
Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC).
24-year-old
Nicole Rebecca Seah Xue Ling, an executive with advertising agency
Starcom MediaVest Group, will also be the youngest candidate so far.
Ms
Seah, who graduated from the National University of Singapore under the
University Scholars' Programme, said she will be addressing cost of
living issues.
Her team members include 60-year-old Cheo Chai
Chen, 63-year-old Ivan Yeo Tiong Boon, 29-year-old Abdul Salim Harun,
and 31-year-old Spencer Ng Chung Hon.
Mr Cheo Chai Chen, who
joined NSP in 2006, made his first foray into politics in 1988 with the
Singapore Democratic Party. He was elected to Parliament as the Member
of Parliament for Nee Soon Central Single Member Constituency (SMC) in
1991.
He is currently in the publishing business.
Another
candidate, Mr Ivan Yeo is the Managing Director of an investment
company. He has been a member of the Central Executive Committee of NSP
since 1994.
A warehouse assistant at a logistics company, Mr
Abdul Salim Harun, aspires to represent the working class, especially
blue-collar workers. He was with the Workers' Party in 2005, and was the
youngest candidate in the 2006 General Election at the age of 24.
The
fifth candidate is Mr Spencer Ng Chung Hon, the founder of an events
company. He served in the Education Ministry from June 2003 to June
2006.
With this, the NSP looks set to go head-to-head with the
People's Action Party team that will be led by Senior Minister Goh Chok
Tong at Marine Parade GRC.
The NSP had earlier announced that it would also contest Jurong, Chua Chu Kang and Tampines GRCs.

Need a life sized picture of Ho Ching to quarantee that but either way it wont work well for the PAP.
Controversial People’s Action Party (PAP) newbie candidate Ms Tin Pei Ling will be facing an electoral battle in Marine Parade GRC against 24 year-old Nicole Seah from the National Solidarity Party (NSP) who has announced her candidacy on Facebook.
Ms Seah is a 24 year-old executive with a multinational advertising agency. She graduated with an honours degree from the National University of Singapore, under the University Scholars’ Programme. Prior to that, she spent most of her education within the Marine Parade precinct, having graduated from Victoria Junior College, Tanjong Katong Secondary School and CHIJ Katong.
The attractive Nicole has been making waves in cyberspace since announcing her candidacy. The number of friends on her Facebook increased by almost a thousand in less than a day.
While Ms Tin was flamed mercilessly by netizens for her apparent lack of ‘substance’ and ‘experience’, Ms Seah appeared to have won over young Singaporeans with many expressing support for her candidacy on her Facebook wall.
The rest of the NSP team for Marine Parade has not been announced though it was rumored that its two former government candidates Tony Tan Lay Thiam and Hazel Poa may be contesting.
Marine Parade GRC, previously a PAP fortress, may face its toughest electoral contest to date if NSP fields its ‘A’ team in it.
In an interview with the state media, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong revealed that the unpopular Tin Pei Ling was ‘offered’ to her by the Prime Minister. Though he claimed to welcome Ms Tin into his team, he acknowledged that negative public perception can cause candidates to lose elections.
It will be an interesting contest between the two ‘Mei Meis’ to see who can win the hearts of Generation Y voters.

Whatever the outcome, it is worth a try at Marine Parade.
And to see how the voters vote.
Pap no doubt will win, but they might win marginally...hope so.
That will be a wake up call for PAP.
PAP SURE WIN BUT MUST REDUCE THEIR SHARES OF VOTES.
The voters there finally can vote.

Most of them will be the first time voters.
Pap might use this as a weapon, caste your votes wisely....
The last time NSP contested Marine Parade was in the 1992 by-election and they got 950 votes only. But this time, I hope that they can get at least 35%.
