BEIJING - THE ground is not so sweet for this coming election, amid rising costs and inflation, said Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong on Monday.
But the People's Action Party will not duck such hot-botton issues, said SM Goh said in an interview with the Singapore media, wrapping up his visit to China.
He said the PAP has assembled a 'strong team' with solid grassroots experience and the right motivations to steer Singapore through challenges such as rising cost of living, the Middle East turmoil, fallout from the tsunami-hit Japan economy and ageing population concerns.
Mr Goh also defended the PAP's youngest candidate Tin Pei Ling, 27, who has been criticised as 'a rather lightweight character', saying the online vitriol against her presented only a superficial view of her.
He insisted that he would not change his mind about including her in his Marine Parade GRC team as she is a 'strong person' and was selected through a rigorous process which pared some 200 top-calibre potential candidates down to just 24.
In contrast, he said it is easy to get into the opposition parties as their candidates do not need to have a solid track record.
these days, thy can't seems to agree among themselves
SM Goh is not too happy to carry the baby.

Will only come in 2020, when the eastern region line linking Marina Bay to Changi is completed.
They will whack their opponents as a diversion and use the local press as their tools.
The opposition party should engage the MIWs with all the issues and problems that we are experiencing now.
The MIWs will start to collapse very soon as they dun really have any solution and they have no experience to fight a election.
This is a result of ah kong creating a strategy of staying in power and employing yes people as his croonies.
The present bunch of croonies have too much good life and have shown their true colour of arrogance through their behaviour recently.
Hope to see the outcome of the voting to put off their arrogance. Create rock bottom to them to teach them all a lesson.
People are not as naive and easily manipulated by PAP state propaganda as in the past.

Opposition should focus on a few key issues and relentlessly attack PAP during the general elections.
Don't raise too many topics, otherwise people will be confused and attack will be spread too thin.
Focus on aliens, focus on HDB high costs, rising cost of living.
These are the main issues that voters can understand.

I concur. Knowing Singaporeans, they cannot handle too much of politics.

They have to be slowly slowly become politicised, step by step build up their political level.
They have been depoliticised by PAP for over 50 years.

Concur. For now I am giving those who are complaining about PAP and make up their mind to vote them again cold shoulder. I see them no up.
My aim is to destroy PAP rule in Singapore.
