THE chief of the People's Action Party's women's wing on Saturday urged Singaporeans to rise above the gender issue when assessing the party's new slate of candidates.
Mrs Lim Hwee Hua was responding to a question on criticisms of the ruling party's new faces, much of which has been been directed at two women - Ms Tin Pei Ling, 27, and Ms Foo Mee Har, 45.
She said on the sidelines of an event at nex Mall: 'I certainly hope that people will rise above the gender perspective."
Mrs Lim, who is Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Finance and Transport, said the candidates should be assessed on whether they have the conviction to serve, and their competencies and abilities.
She expressed a hope that people would not target candidates because they are women, adding that 'that would be very sad if it were true.'
I don't know what to say.
I also don't know what to say.
We know it's nothing to do with gender....
thing we so easily get cheated meh.....

It is not about gender, otherwise Low Yen Ling will also get shoot already.
Tin Pei Ling is because she don't know what to say.
Foo Mee Har is because of her husband's bankruptcy. (http://www.atoncenews.com/foo-mee-har.html)
why are they thinking of married wimen gender????internet got no more porn is it????think ministers should go surf porn.....they sound very abnormal highlighting gender when they cant solve much of spores issues at hand.
if they need females so badly....they should surf porn or goto geylang!!
and why isnt there any transexuals????they wad??discrimination is it???
well said....
to rise above gender perspectives, the system should have balanced their gender policies without overemphasizing on women side, which is currently and regrettably NOT so.
When can the system make the first move to relook on the amendment of women charter in tune with the new times? If the system is unwilling or afraid to make any proactive change on that, how could they possibly thick skin with asking for one to rise above the current perception?
its starts with the system themselves - as a example for the rest to emulate
so what's NEX?

By S Ramesh | Posted: 09 April 2011 1431 hrs
SINGAPORE: People's Action Party's (PAP) Chairman Lim Boon Heng said the party is close to deciding whether the younger candidates it has been testing out will fit the bill in all the Group Representation Constituencies (GRC) and in particular, Jurong GRC which he currently helms.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the PAP Community Foundation in Jurong GRC, Mr Lim said he does not rule out surprises on Nomination Day, if necessary.

Wah, she wants to play the gender card.
Like you said, it was never because they were female.
I think they really need to listen to the ground more carefully instead of coming up with these kinds of stupid reasons. It makes them sound very DUH.

SM Goh: It was a ‘tongue-in cheek’ comment
April 3rd, 2011 | Author: Editorial
Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, who reportedly told local media that People’s Action Party new candidate Ms Ting Pei Ling was seeing a “trauma specialist” has now qualify (hours later) that the comment which he made on Facebook was a “tongue-in cheek”.
Obviously referring to the “frosty reception” Ms Tin was receiving from Netizens, Mr Goh was reported by ChannelNewsAsia yesterday to have said that Ms Tin has been “traumatized” and that he was with her when she saw a ‘trauma specialist’.
The revealations prompted Netizens to speculate that Mr Goh was merely using it as an excuse for the PAP to remove Ms Tin from the candidacy on “medical reason”, seeing now that Ms Tin would be a total liability to the party.
However, this speculation has now been debunked and peeved Netizens should expect a $15,000 a month “Parliamentary Stomper” after the General Election, via the coat-tails of Mr Goh.
Referring to his initial posting, Mr Goh (in his new comment hours later) accused the media of failing to appreciate his “tongue-in cheek” post:
MParader (Mr Goh)
Pei Ling just called. Media wants her comments on my post. They [the media] have failed to appreciate my tongue-in cheek post. True, she has been thru baptism of fire. My use of medical metaphor is becos Fatimah is a trauma specialist. No need for media to chase PL for comments. She is strong n working hard.— Goh Chok Tong
He explained that he had used a “medical metaphor to describe “Fatimah” as she is a trauma specialist.
According to the Parliament of Singapore website, Dr Fatimah (who is an MP at Marine Parade GRC) is currently a consultant with the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Singapore General Hospital.
Since Ms Tin Pei Ling was first introduced to the public as the PAP’s youngest candidate on 28th March, thousands of Netizens have called for Ms Tin to be fielded in an SMC to “prove her mettle” and have vowed to vote the entire Marine Parade GRC team out should the PAP decides to allow her to “piggy-back” into Parliament via the coat-tails of Mr Goh.

Seriously, we won't target the women. They are nothing much to see anyway.
