Revert to 3-member GRCs for credibility

WHAT has happened to the group representation constituency (GRC) system represents a deviation from its originally noble intention ('Cynicism will hurt GRC system', commentary by deputy editor Alan John; Wednesday).
Original three-member GRCs have mushroomed into four-, five- and six-member constituencies, although these upsizings have not helped increase minority-race presence in Parliament.
If the original objective could be achieved with three members in a GRC, why has the number increased so drastically over the years?
In my view, the changes were prompted by the People's Action Party's (PAP) desire to make it increasingly difficult for opposition parties to capture a GRC, after surviving a narrow shave in a few GRC contests.
The PAP's argument that having large GRCs cuts both ways for the PAP and opposition parties in terms of risks and rewards is unconvincing.
Also, linking GRCs to town council management is an afterthought to justify the increase in GRC size.
There is nothing to prevent two- or three-member GRCs from banding together if there is a common interest in improving management and benefiting from economies of scale, if the MPs concerned agree.
What the PAP has done in upsizing GRCs is wrong, although it may be legal and constitutional.
So, I say, cynicism has already hurt the GRC system. The PAP should revert to three-member GRCs to restore credibility.

I rather spolit my vote than voting for these candidates. -
Come 2016 we may have one or two GRCs with filipinos as requirement, who knows?
New citizen PRC no need, cos Chinese.
New citizen Indians no need, cos Indians. -

Why filipinos? Too many of their maids here that they need a filipino MP to represent them? -

They are no longer coming here as maids, but as our bosses, managers.... or executives.... same level as us, slighter lower or even higher. -

Straits Times just published a 2 page report saying maids waving good bye to Singapore, its off to Taiwan and Hong Kong!
They want a salary of SGD 800 and up, which employers here are unable to afford.
Those that came here are here to learn Mandarin, then its off to dreamland HK or TW. -

Of course employers here can only give lower wages, as employees here have to be cheaper, but not necessary resulting in better and faster. -

Goh Chok Tong already revealed the true reasons for creating GRCs:
In his latest speech, Goh said that one of the purposes of Group Representation Constituencies [1] was to help People's Action Party (PAP) candidates win election easily.
There! He has admitted it. The State and its electoral system have been corrupted to serve partisan ends.
Goh was quite brazen about it. He said that the role of GRCs was not just to ensure minorities are adequately represented -– a nearly 2-decades-old justification for GRCs. By doing so, he has conceded that for the last 2 decades, the PAP been less than truthful about their motives.

Most PAP MPs are not real politicians.
They are not political leaders.
Their role is more like a paid agent of the ruling clique within the PAP CEC.
Because these people are not real politicians, they cannot really win elections through their own political effort and abilities.
So how to get non politicians into parliament?
Through the GRC system.

He doesn't need things like GRCs to come to power.
That is a real political leader.
