IN the latest of a string of resignations from the Reform Party (RP), election candidate Alec Tok on Friday announced that he has quit the party.
The 46-year-old is one of two election candidates that the party has announced so far, the other being secretary-general Kenneth Jeyaretnam.
Speaking to the press at a hawker centre in Radin Mas - the ward which he is supposed to contest - Mr Tok said he quit over a list of 11 party protocols drawn up by Mr Jeyaretnam. He said he takes particular issue with two clauses in the list, which was shown to reporters on Friday.
One states that central executive committee (CEC) members are subject to a three-month probation period, during which they can be asked to leave without any notice or reason needed.
Another clause states that any CEC member who resigns will must agree to a three-month 'gardening leave' period, which bars him or her from speaking to the media.
Mr Tok said that such clauses went against the party ideals of openness and transparency. He also objected to the fact that he was not told about these conditions before he was asked to join the CEC.
reform party ........DOWN d DRAIN

mass resignation dont make d opp party look good.
this guy just appeared in the chinese version of the recent political debate. And now he quits because he cannot accept 2 clauses. I wonder if this chap has placed party interests before self.
Before he was effusing about how he would help the poor, how he has come back to singapore to do his part and now this. Mole suspected.
With the recent spate of sudden resignations from opposition parties, I am seriously wondering if those crazy theories about moles being planted are true.
So no 4 corner fight already loh.
why not? lol. KJ said he has 80 candidates on his rolls.
If they want to fall apart now, they better fall apart now, don't last minute again.
KJ is just trying very hard to put a brave front when the cream group of reform party left.
80 or 100 members but no more outstanding "A" quality candidate liao, unless he can rope in his lawyer brother.
Every five years when election season starts, I recalled my father’s advice to me when I was a young boy and he said “ My dear son you should never bet on donkey in horse racing”.
I think he is right indeed. Singapore does not need any opposition parties. It is better to have more talented Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) in parliament.
Whenever I travel overseas and see how other people live, what they have, how they have progressed, I think singapore's been doing a pretty darn good job thanks to our govt.

Honestly, who gives a shit about that? Doesn't really affect my everyday life come to think about it.
Moles, moles moles

yeah that is one of the reasons why there is no progress for sinkingpore
too many self centred hopeless people for progress to take place in sinkingpore

Then you are not a political person. Your mentality is not the mentality of a political person.

Of course I'm not a political person. I'm just a layman, expecting things to work the way they should day in day out. And to keep the engine running, I pay my taxes, and such blah blah blah.
