There is speculation that the General Election is just around the corner (Dec 2010?) as Straits Times today (14 Oct 2010) reported that PAP MPs were asked to have their photos taken and prepare for rehearsal for speeches.
I just want to show you something from the 2006 Election:
“I am concerned about less-skilled Singaporeans, whose jobs and wages are under pressure. I worry for older Singaporeans too, living by themselves and having to provide for their medical and daily expenses. I am troubled that a terrorist attack will sow suspicion and discord among Singaporeans. We must respond boldly and creatively to these opportunities and challenges, expand our horizons and aim high. We will continue to restructure our economy to make it more productive and resilient. We should make our society more vibrant and cohesive. And our young must be imbued with the same can-do, never-say-die Singapore spirit that has brought us here”
.– Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, his letter to Singaporeans, PAP Manifesto for General Election 2006.
You remember this letter sent to you during the last election? I want to show it to you to remind you of PM Lee’s promise in 2006 to “respond boldly and creatively” to the challenges faced by Singaporeans. That was 4 years ago. Just look at the above paragraph – right on top, he said “I’m concerned…about less skilled Singaporeans whose jobs and wages are under pressure”. He sent this letter to all Singaporeans during the last election and after he got elected he opened the floodgates to cheap foreign labor and that increased the downward pressure on the wages of lower skilled workers. He increased GST – a regressive tax that would be most heavily shouldered by low wages earners. He increased the pay of his cabinet which was already the highest in the world prior to the increase.
When the campaigning starts and the PAP men give their speeches and make their promises, remember what Lee Hsien Loong said in 2006 and what he has done since.

politicians are all full of shit.
woah, maiden post for this
WE just need to remember whatever promises they make are base on their control and want not genuinely for the public
they think loong term.
yeah, exactly, they think long term. They think long term for protecting and increasing their selfish interests.
Not only are they not fulfilling their promises, they are filling their pockets full of money robbed from the poor.
yeah, next after increasing the pay of the indian man, the pm and ministers are the next in line.

Lets review what they promised in 2006, with a youtube video evidence.
Certain low skilled jobs are shun by the locals.
We still need them especailly construction sites, man the roads, cutting the grasses along the road side.

But not those in the services industry, like waiters, waiteresses, sales assistants, cashiers....

This is a pun.
Go the IRs and see...Go to the service-side industry and see....
Tons of f1l1pin0es are being hired because you need to know english when being in the service side....and they are much more "affordable"...
My estate here...Dam jialat...Everywhere i go i see them...in shopping centre...in the coffeeshop....They are everywhere...No joke...
At my local macdonalds...even the 2nd manager is one also...And he openly scold a staff who happens to be a old auntie(assume singaporeean) in front of all the customers...Even if she done wrong u don scold openly...and when i saw that i really felt sad...for the plight that our country has become like this....
This has become the case...
I couldnt deny we need these foreign labour....take note i use labour not talent(i welcome talents more) .....but its really too much....there is too many of them that is affecting the pay of the lowly skilled singaporeans...too many of them affecting our way of life...
according to one of the leader in the opposition....you are almost at half a century in helm...and your people don feel a sense of rootedness for their homeland....then something is really wrong...
something is really wrong here....

Yes Jun, those industries should give priority to sporean.
But alias, it was being overtaken by the foreigners making life damn difficult for those class of sporean to survive.
Yes, they do increase levy, but still not good enough. Language barrier is the main concern too. Strict rules and policies should in review and in place. Or else Spore will become a less favoured country to come in long run. Make it hard and spore will be love by foreigners.

Koreans and Japanese also have road sweepers and cleaners and they are proud of doing it because they are pay correctly. Even in America the builders are americans because the pay was reasonable.
With HDB prices going up , everything going up yet ppl still not willing to pay reasonable salary that is obvious govt fault for opening the flood gate and spoil the employers. Now the employers are on drugs, threaten to close down their business if they are not feed with cheap labours.
Million dollars pay, for such a short-sighted solutions.
So to please the poor or to please the rich that is the most important answer we need from the govt.
A few obvious factors :-
Lower personal tax only helps the rich,
While suppressing pay only kills the poor.
GST on rice, sugar, oil, water and power kills the poor more.
While more ppl helps business to thrive.Believe what you want but the facts are there , you only need to use your eyes to see.
Yup. We need to pay workers more, thats the key.
Frankly speaking, my generation (the 20s), nobody seems to want to work anymore. If you have realised, many entrepreneurs wanna-bes are springing up.. flea markets, pushcarts.... everywhere.... Everyone wants to be boss already. "Workers group" seems to be coming to an end.
That's a bit late, right? Only in this millenium, youngsters think this way. Everyone grows up wanting to be a military officer, some big time manager, director, pilot, minister. All belonging to the category of "workers".
The chinese in indonesia have started that since they came here. And the next gen and so on. 5% of the population but they control 75% of the economy.

pay you 2000 a month to sweep the roads along your estate, you want?
would you really do it?!
probably not.
because singaporeans value their own face and ego, just as much as they do money. when it comes down to that moment when you have to clean up after the general public, you.won't.do.it. we don't even need to compare ourselves to the japanese and koreans since in the first place, the upbringing and mindset from the moment they're born right until they grow old is so different from ours.
Before elections: Full of promises and moving speeches
End of elections: Thank voters for their support
During term: Cannot keep promises due to budget restrictions, lacks of votes from other MPs, not feasible, plans will take at least 5 years to materialise.
Before the next elections: Make more promises and hide unachieved promises as plans in the pipeline.
Thats the way politics run, even if you elect opposition it is the same. Democracy means that for every right you have, the other person in the parliment or the public has the same right as you to reject your plans.

Seng siong pays only 4 dollar an hour for cashier and u lose money u pay.
If I am jobless and my family needs me to feed them – 2k to sweep floor why not??
When u are old and jobless and nobody else wants u – what is face?
Face is for the rich and famous ppl.
Try being poor and desperate then talk abt face.
The truth is the poor are exploited, just because there are so many foreigners sweeping floor doesn’t mean no Singaporean wants to sweep floor.
Stop listening to lies and open your eyes!!
When you're old and jobless and nobody wants you, and worse if you got children you raised and yet you're still not taken care of WHEN you're old and jobless, means your children are losers who know nuts about filial piety. that's different. I'm talking about young, 30 somethings who are not old, probably jobless and of course, very much desperate but then again have never properly touched a broom/mop in the entire span of their lives, and probably would not do so for 2k. there's a sick and twisted culture going on here. yeah you'd do it, sure, but you sure as hell won't like doing it. and that would lead to you not doing it for many years cos in the first place u dont take pride in it, you just want the damned money.
oh wait. no, they're still losers. same same.
But ... but ... they promised our real income will increase in 10 year's time.
