ONE disturbing practice as political parties make their rounds among the grassroots is the decision by many to shy away from having a conversation with opposition party members.
Singaporeans should be mature enough to engage in discussion with opposition candidates and use the opportunity to compare them with People's Action Party (PAP) candidates. Let us welcome opposition parties when they call on us and not avoid them. They deserve as much respect as PAP members.
These opposition candidates should be given due recognition for taking the bold step to stand with the opposition, a step many Singaporeans refuse to take.

Because Singapore have been under one party rule for many years.
climate of self imposed fear.
The reason why pple shun them or rather detour when they see them is they think that the govt might look at them at the distance....afraid.

They are afraid that these government people will follow them home, knocked on their doors and asked: Why you talk to opposition members? You are voting for them is it?
Maybe come one day, government will install CCTVs at food centre, markets, coffee shops, food courts etc where opposition are doing walkabout. And then people see opposition members came, quickly finished eating and walk away. Then those people queueing up to buy food also walk away. In the end, the stallholders business drop.
There's lesser element of fear nowadays.
time will tell.
Till now, I never see my opposition knocking at my door.

Agree. Few years back, WP giving out brochures, I shun like mad.
But today, I may just stop and look at their brochures.

This is Taliban strategy. Kill those who talk to government troops, and very soon people will hate it when government troops come.
no talk is as powerful as your decisive vote to change

Nothing wrong and nothing to fear of.

I'll continue to do that. They exist only to oppose, not to make correct decisions and such.
The various opposition parties actually went and decide who shall take which GRC, which ward, and so on. Are you sure they are doing it for Singaporeans, or themselves?
one has to distinguish opportunists and careerists joining political parties from true people leaders...
political campaign cannot simply be marketed like a fan club...
more people representation is needed to voice in the medias....invite them up to speak often
the best hope is still to have varied representations of the so called "noise" or "distortions"
these noises would one day be an important corner stone of the future political landscape in 10 to 20 years time
care.

opposition not oppose then do what? support inflation?support high minister salary?
support high housing prices?
opposition has so long subjected to harsh prosecution from ruling regime that they had limited resources, what wrong with allocation of which party to contest which GRC and wards?
also no sign and notice of their coming dats why i doubt how serious they are to serve the nation. really cannot be bothered until there is confirmation and I see they are serious
