  Chiam all geared up for GRC fight

  Opposition veteran says he has a team plus a good shot at winning

  ACCOMPANIED by his wife, opposition veteran Chiam See Tong on Sunday appeared fit and ready to do battle in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.

  He went on a four-hour walkabout in the constituency, visiting five coffee shops and a market, and even walking up a flight of 30 steps without help.

  The 76-year-old Potong Pasir MP, who suffered a stroke in 2008, clearly felt he had a point to prove on the walkabout - his first in the area since the Feb 24 electoral boundaries report.

  When asked about his health midway through the visit, he said to The Straits Times: 'You can see for yourself. I'm able to climb up a flight of steps unassisted. That should speak a lot for itself.'

  Mr Chiam also addressed for the first time talk that he might not be able to muster enough candidates to contest a GRC.

  'If I don't have a team, why should I waste my time walking here?' he said.

  Chiam should just hold the fort in Potong Pasir and let his lieutenants do the hard work of capturing a GRC. He can't make much headway in BSH-TPY, especially when the internal security minister is in charge there.

  Good for Mr Chiam.

   

  For 20 plus years, the PAP has, through its GRC system, denied the residents of Toa Payoh their right to vote.  We do not even get the chance to reject our so-called "duly elected representatives" (who electyed them?).

  Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC definitely an unknown ground. No elections for close to 20 years? Even the demographics change until nobody knows whats the chance of winning.

  Looks like a more interesting fight for this coming elections.

   

  Last election the only exciting contest was in aljunied GRC and ang mo kio GRC.

  yup... hopefully we can see more... its like coming in weeks' time. something for me to look forward to... rallies... never attended one before.

  Uncle.. stop say about balls lah.He sure lose because this GRC have rich peeps ok..rich peeps only=PAP...they like to Pay And Pay...But for others will be Poor Also Pay...
