OPPOSITION parties stepped up their walkabouts in single-seat constituencies across the island on Sunday, a day after they failed to reach full agreement on who should stand where to avoid three-way fights.
Having agreed to resolve the problem bilaterally, the parties hope their intensified efforts will give them an edge in pressing their claims to contest the eight newly created single seats.
These are: Hong Kah North, Mountbatten, Pioneer, Punggol East, Radin Mas, Sengkang West, Yuhua and Whampoa.
In Whampoa, four opposition parties are eyeing the seat but National Solidarity Party (NSP) council member Ken Sun argues that it should be his as he contested the constituency when it was a single seat back in 1988.
'Since then, we have never deserted Whampoa. We continue to walk about the place almost every month,' he said.
'It has virtually not been improved since the time I stood here in 1988,' he added, saying that a polyclinic and recreational activities were badly needed.
Ok time to be laughing stock fodder for ST. I recognise steve chia in that pic but who's the other guy? Seems to me that they appear only when elections come. Or maybe it's just ST propaganda and censorship.

Does it make a difference?
You probably don't get to see the incumbent MP in your own constituency for the past few years until election year anyway.
Same what.
Plse opp party., even after the ge and u lost, u still need to do more walkaround too and not only just for ge. Pple wont vote for you..
well you see people like george yeo, they don't do constituency walks or meet the people sessions but they are highly visible. That guy shaking hands in the pic can easily pass off as a market butcher u know :)
Luckily none of the opposition members and incumbent party members are filipinos.
it's a good time to try to become an opposition MP.
now that there would be a minimum of 9 opposition MPs in parliament in the next round, it doesn't even matter if these chaps win a seat or not, the next 9 best losers would still get in as NCMP .....
good deal .... 10 to 12k each month for the next few years ...
maybe that's why a lot of these opposition figures from the small fry parties are businessmen.

That's because he is also a minister.
It is almost a given that they have to appear in the papers every now and then be it for local or national duties.
You think the ST wants to report on opposition members doing a walkabout in certain constituencies after elections?
The only time they will report will be if it was some scandalous things to paint them in a negative light.
you'll be surprised how many of the MIW kar-kia are businessmen too...
i've met a lot of the "grassroots lea-duhs"... almost all are businessmen.. who cannot be trusted with a plugged nickel...
that being said, i can't bring myself to trust most of the MIW politicians...
and i can't bring myself to trust most of the opposition politicians either...
i still think those who seek power immediately disqualifies themselves of deserving any
speaking of scandals .... remember steve chia's topless pics of his maid when he was an MP ? .....
you can't engineer this sort of scandal even if you try ........ it was his wife that called in the police ......

i would wonder what kind of scandals the MIW have in their closets considering it is against the law to publish such scandals even if it is proven fact..

what if he is satanic?
coz he had these nude pictures of himself and his maid or something like that.. doesn't that mean he's 'satanic' to you?
and if you vote for a 'satanic' person, does that mean you are also satanic?

He's Ken Sun
Competition will only benefit the citizens of Singapore.
No competition means no progress.
No single party should have total power.
