Phones with digital cams worrying
THE advent of more high-tech mobile phones can pose a threat to one's privacy and modesty. While cameras are normally banned from places such as public swimming pools, changing rooms, and health or fitness centres, mobile phones are allowed freely. The problem is that some of the latest mobile phones, such as the Nokia 7650 or Sony Ericsson's T68i, come with integrated digital cameras which enable users to snap pictures.
Therefore, I would like to know whether the Infocomm Development Authority has taken a contingency approach when licensing such models. Should such models be sold freely? Also, what are the security measures taken by the managements of public swimming pools, country clubs and private fitness clubs with regard to such mobile phones? In some fitness clubs, the security personnel safeguard only the changing-room area by designating it a no-camera zone. But they overlook the workout area, where many members are scantily clad. Anyone can become an easy, unsuspecting target of perverted users of such high-tech phones.
