i will be entering my first marathon, hence i nid some advice on my running shoes... does anyone know where is the biggest addidas shop in singapore, where i can ask for guidance from salesperson, and a wide variety of running shoes to choose from?
what marathon are you joining? the 42+km is it? who's the event sponsor?
get asics...
if u wanna get proper running shoes.
get asics.
go to peninsular plaza, there's a shop specialising in running shoes.
Asics specializes in running shoes.. so get them instead.
asics. period.
I also recommend asics. But anybody know the cheapest place to buy running shoes? is it still queensway with the best deal?
btw peninsular plaza that area, the shoes shops are all "linked" with each other.. so don't bother trying to run all over to ask the price.. :)
addidas is the main sponsor... so tinking got discount ma... so im considering addidas shoes... so u guys think addidas is nt a good choice?
lol.. it depends on individuals la..
first of all, understand your run pattern; i.e. do you pronate or supinate? high arch or flat foot? the shoes tech expert will be able to tell you. also, if you are a heavier runner, you need shoes with more cushioning. getting the lightest shoes may actually do you more harm if you weigh on the heavier side.
the brands are secondary, though i agree with most that asics probably make the best range of running shoes. i loved my last asics but i am actually comfortable alternating between my 2 adidas presently.
also, it is important to note that you should buy a shoe that is at least half a size larger than your usual size as the feet will expand due to the heat generated, especially over a course of 42km in humid singapore. good luck!
asics, no question about it.
another question.
your first time running a marathon?
have you ever run a half marathon before?
if you have ran before, i think you have more experience in buying shoes.
where is the best place to buy the shoes? I need to buy one too.. Marina Square has an asics shop.. but I'm wondering if there's any cheaper place.. :)

i would (still) say queensway, but it may help if you call-up the asics disti itself and talk to their technical specialist. sometimes they do sell direct, at good discounts. when i bought my kayano (which has since been stolen), i used that ruse. got a very good discounts. not sure if they do still do it now....
asics few weeks back had a clearance sale..
omg.. I guess I missed it.. I'm looking at the 2120 series.. I have a ds racer.. but I need a trainer for longer distances.. typically I run 9-11km.. so I'm actually harming my legs and before it gets worse, I need to get new shoes!
thanks! I shall drop by queensway then..

that must be newer version of it.. but yeah.. my feet is that range.. I'll go look out for 2130 when I go queensway.. :)
asics!
running marathon and look for shoe? I figure you have not been running much.
There are specialist shoe shop in Penisula and Funan and Marina, but i find Novena is a better option.
try out the shoes shop in Novena Square, most of the shoes shop representative there are equip with answer to your shoe query.
Do remember to tell the sale person you are doing 42km, as most probably you will be recommend to get 1 or 1/2 size bigger.
Bring along a old pair of sneakers along to the shoe shop. Be prepare to do some running on the treadmill while trying out the shoe...so get the proper attire and no heavy food before going up to Novena.
The most popular around is Asics, New Balance and Nike for long distance running.
I assume you are not doing off trail/cold weather(snow) marathon...which require shoe of different type.
Price wise in Singapore is pretty standard...as for discount, you might be getting from 20-50% off the retail depend on what brand and which shops and lobang you can find.
As everyone has said.... go for Asics if you can afford it.
Their shoes are the most expensive of all the brands.... but their running shoes are among the best.
Try going to Queensway or Peninsular Plaza.
Heck, if you really want, visit the Running Lab at either Funan or Velocity.... they can do a professional analysis of your feet and recommend a good pair of shoes for you.
asics! mizuno is pretty good as well.
just checked out peninsular and queensway.. queensway still cheapest. so don't bother elsewhere.
