I'm watching sports because I'm a sports fan. Heck, I'll watch almost anything except field hockey and netball.
The recent Tour de France is in turmoil. No one knows who last year's winner is as he was tested positive for huge amounts of testosterone in his sample. This year, a couple of riders have been done in for blood doping, that is, they have blood pumped into their body in order that they can process more oxygen and thus have more stamina and strength. One other has been done for excessive testosterone too.
A couple of days ago, the yellow jersey was yanked for lying to the team about his whereabouts when there was off-season testing. He was seen in Italy when he said he was in Mexico.
This has caused the most important cycling race in the world to become a farce.
Right now, I'm watching the Major League Baseball, where Barry Bonds may break Hammerin' Hank Aaron's home run record soon. I've seen Barry Bonds over the years, there is NO WAY the guy is not on steriods or some kind of substance as he's bulked up so much it's scary.
In the past, we've seen many who have never been caught and so many who have. Ben Johnson, whose yellow jaundiced eyes betray his drug use. Florence Joyner who paid with her life. Carl Lewis who is crippled now.
When will the authorities or the athletes stop to think about this? It's ruining sports, it's ruining lives... is winning worth it?
You know, i got a feeling that, sometimes the team owning the player is the one that is pressurizing the athletes to take drugs.
The choice is always theirs, yes but to them, only winning matters. Because nobody remember the losers.
