A controversial penalty given to Singapore, last night caused the Thai players to walk out of the field, unprofessionally in protest. Something the Thais know all to often, in the political world of Thailand. There were a few Thai supporters, escorted out of the stadium for rowdy behavior by the infamous, Cisco officers. The infringement was 50-50. Frankly, I had seen penalties given for less. Especially in the recent World Cup, and English Premier League games. After about 15 minutes, Mustafic took the penalty and Singapore led 2-1, till the full time whistle was blown. This is the first time an incident like this had taken place, in the TournamentsÂ’ history.
After 30 years, we finally beat Thailand at the, Ancient National Stadium. In show of great sportsmanship, Singapore declined kindly, to win the Cup by default, persuading the Thais to return to the pitch and continue with play.
The first half saw the Thais falling to the ground so regularly, I thought a new game was invented called, “who dives wins.” Singapore was not 100 percent solid either. Simple passes did not reach its intended target. Set pieces that were a mimic of the appalling, set piece by the Chelsea game set up, between Drogba and Ballack. Forward runs were sometimes virtually non-existence and the closing down of players, were lacking. At the end of the day we head into Bangkok with a one-goal lead.
Due to the score line, Thailand will be attacking right from the commencement of the match in Bangkok. Therefore, Singapore should be playing a counter attacking style of play. Each time Thailand attacks, we counter them furiously, that is the only way to destroy the Thais, rhythm and frustrate their fans. We should also be practicing on our set pieces, defending, passes and crosses. Let us hold on to what is rightfully ours, the cup.
thailand has no sportmanship...
