Penalty Thriller
A crucial save by Lionel Lewis on the last penalty take, sent Singapore into the finals at last.
A crowd of 55,000 fans were jumping with arms aloft and screaming, at the top of their lungs to create the Great Kallang Roar. Ridhuan much needed rebound goal kept the spirits up at the National Stadium when Singapore was 1 Nil down against arc rivals, Malaysia. For a moment, I thought the Malaysia Cup was back. Precious long shot almost gave Singapore the lead, before full time but was well saved, by the Malaysian keeper. What can I say, Singapore, the nation we love, is finally into the finals.
The first leg of the finals will be played in Singapore on Wednesday, tickets will be sold at Jalan Besar, selected stadiums and selected Singapore Pools locations from, 9am – 5pm. So give Singapore that crucial support, before the Ancient Kallang Stadium is demolished, to make way for a new stadium. This is a last call to pack the stadium, even though it is on a Wednesday.
Let us defend what is rightfully ours, the right to be the 12th player, in the Singapore squad.
I see that there are already plenty of abuses on our national team, from our very own LOCAL FANS in this forum alone.
Yes, i agree that the national team may be playing shit football at times.
I agree that the national team is currently relying on some FTs to form the backbone of the team.
I agree that the standard of football in this region is low as compared to the european football that local fans are used to watch.
BUT, as a true blue fan of football, we should all be supporting our LOCAL team, just like how the football fans in england support their local teams, even though they may be playing in the lower divisions.
Agreed, that they have not played the best football on saturday against malaysia, it was a close game that could have gone either way.
Agreed, that they may be facing a manslaughter from the superior Thais in the final, irregardless of the home or away leg.
But i turned up on saturday to show my support for the national team, and i will do so again on wednesday to see them fight against the mighty thais. Because i'm a singaporean and i want to support my local team.
So, i urge the forumers here to show your support too.. if u can't make it to the stadium, or catch it on television, at least give your moral support.. The last thing the lions need is being booed, abused, and flamed by their very own 'FANS'.
