I was also at Kallang during the Abbas Saad and Edwards era.Those two foreign Talents made Singapore looked Invincible in the Malaysia Cup for a while but Malaysia had Zainal Abidin and Khalid Ali..their father was the foreign talent (boxer)in Malaysia.Abbas Saad was quick with the ball and Edwards was good in the air.There were really good until there was a problem about how much FAS should pay them.....and then came Craig Foster.and then Singapore started losing again.

Didnt know anything about Singapore soccer throughout the 90s and only started watching again when they played Japan at Jalan besar where we were all glued to our TVs expecting Japan to hantam Singapore at least 5 goals.That night my friends and I were at a soccer pub in Tokyo when suddenly Singapore scored though Indra Shahdan.I intinctively shouted GOAL!!! and then my friends asked me if I was ok with the drinks....because 10 years ago I became a Japanese Citizen.I tell you it was really funny to be shouting goals when the two teams were scoring but in the end Singapore lost 2-1.Fandi Ahmad could have been the best but he didnt go all the way because he was too attached to the local kampung footbal scene.....so up till now nobody in Singpore can claim the title of Soccer King.Intimi Dickson has got good potentials...I dont know I saw an African player running around the Japanese Defence in that game maybe it was him.And that was the first time I realise that the Singapore team really need more foreign talents.

oh come on, you all cant always see a person if he is good by the many goals he scores. soccer is all about teamwork, working together for the goal.

Wow the name Wong Kok Choy suddenly brought me back to nostalgia and then I started recalling names like V.Kanesan or something like that Malek Awab,T pathmanathan,K Kannan and how David Lee let in the first goal in Kallang stadium when Singapore played Kedah before that the Lions were never beaten before........at Kallang the thundering noise created by 60,000 fans was enough to shrink any rival goalkeeper balls to the size of dried raisins and that was how Kallang Roar got its name.

but the following season was great as we recruited abbas saad, edward, fandi ahmad, sundam and jang jung. dat season was great!

I always remebered that special goal scored by V Sundramoorthy in the Ntl Stadium. It was a bicycle kick (overhead kick) scored against... I forgotten against who liao (anyone recalled that one?). The whole friggin stadium erupted with thunderous applause. Ppl were jumping... tearing up the tickets and thrown them into the air. hahaha. awesome.
Hasnim Haron and Sundramoorthy... excellent dribblers. Fandi infamous for his scissors kicks. Abbas was hardworking and plays smart football. Alastair Edwards was excellent wif headers. Malek Awab was small but a terror inn the engine room. Jang Jung was a Korean rock. Borhan Abu Samah was Singapore tank for his killer tackles. Terry Pathmanathan... excllent reader of the game and awesome captain. -
Jus checked in Wiki.... Sundramoorthy scored against Brunei in a 1994 Malaysia Cup tie at the National Stadium. That's the ONE.

there was once the crowds went excited when lim tong hai scored a header against his uncle's side (Kedah), he was like a hero overnite as the crowds forgotten about his own goals at the sea game. -

yes our standard very high cuz we compare these players with Soccer legends and world class players but the point is all the names mentioned have had their moment of magic and taste of Victory....ah and a few more names like Leong kok fann and Au yong Pak Kwang .The more we want to forget about kampung soccer the more names keep popping up.

I feel so nostalgic listening to these names once again.
My fave has to be the late Borhan Abu Samah...He plays just like David Unsworth...I still remember an incident during the M Cup where he tackled a player from Kedah and that player hospitalised for a fracture.
I forgot the Angmo goalkeeper for Singapore... before David Lee's time...wah that guy is like Taibi sia... that curly hair guy.. anybody still remember him? -
