Alan Pardew has been sacked as West Ham manager after a string of defeats.
The decision was taken this morning by Hammers new chairman Eggert Magnusson and the club will seek to appoint a successor before the January transfer window.
West Ham said in a statement: 'West Ham United have today announced the departure from the club of Alan Pardew.
'Alan has made an important contribution since joining as manager in September 2003 but this season's results have been disappointing and have left the club in a very difficult position.
'The chairman, Mr Eggert Magnusson, and the board have been concerned by the performances of recent weeks and feel that it is the right time to make a change in the best interests of the club.
'Mr Magnusson and the board would like to place on the record their thanks to Alan Pardew for his hard work and commitment and to wish him well for the future.
'The search for a successor is now under way in order that a new manager can be in place ahead of the January transfer window.
'First-team coach Kevin Keen will take temporary charge of team affairs until a new appointment has been made. No further statements on this matter will be made by the club before that time.'
The Hammers have lost five out of their last six Premiership matches including both games since Magnusson became chairman - a 4-0 at Bolton on Saturday which followed a 2-0 home defeat against Wigan. -

Curbishley red-hot favourite for West Ham job

Former Charlton chief Alan Curbishley is the red-hot favourite to replace the sacked Alan Pardew as West Ham boss at Upton Park.
Curbishley is currently out of work and was linked with the managerial jobs at West Brom and Leeds - but after he admitted he would only be interested in managing another top-flight club, they appointed Tony Mowbray and Dennis Wise respectively.
Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is the second favourite with most bookies, while other names in the hat are George Graham, Glenn Hoddle, Dowie, David O'Leary and Claudio Ranieri. -

The chairman of the League Managers' Association, John Barnwell, is convinced Alan Pardew suffered at West Ham because of the way he quickly brought success to the club.
Barnwell told Sky Sports News: "The job has become more intense. I don't like the word pressure, but it has increased.
"Alan raised the standards to a very high level last year and has possibly become a victim of his own success. That success was expected to be built upon but things outside of his control seemed to take over the football club with talk of new owners and the bringing in of two foreign players, possibly not at his (Pardew's) request, which seemed to destabilise things within that football club.
"But Alan's a very strong character and seemed to have pulled that around with the Arsenal victory. But unfortunately results haven't gone for him and as all managers will tell you, we are in a results business and in the Premiership that's the bottom line." -

Alan Pardew was reportedly sacked by West Ham United yesterday after bust-ups with senior players.
The Sun says Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Bolton was the last straw and Pardew was fired yesterday morning.
Pardew had also lost some of the dressing room and suffered a series of bust-ups with players. These included Anton Ferdinand, Shaun Newton, Yossi Benayoun, Bobby Zamora and Javier Mascherano.
Pardew gave a speech to them after training before clearing his desk.
In a statement, he said: "I am proud of my achievements at West Ham United.
"When I took the helm they were in the Championship and struggling to find direction.
"In two consecutive seasons we qualified for the play-off final, ultimately achieving the Premiership status the club so richly deserve."
The club's Icelandic owners are due to have a meeting with the team today. -
Alan Curbishley has said he would be delighted to take over as West Ham coach following the sacking of Alan Pardew.
Curbishley, who has been biding time since he stood down as manager of Charlton in the summer to take a break from football, is believed to be the Hammers' first-choice replacement.
He has already been installed as the bookmakers' favourite to take over at the club he previously played for and Curbishley is keen to talk to West Ham's new chairman Eggert Magnusson.
"I'd love to know what they want to say - of course I'm interested," he told the Daily Express on Tuesday.
"I suspect we will get together over the next day or so when the dust has settled.
"Perhaps having the chance to manage them, five years after they were allegedly seeking me to replace Harry Redknapp, is a massive honour.
"Once you are brought up in a background like West Ham the affection you have for the club never goes away -
West Ham offer Curbishley £7.5M deal

Alan Curbishley has been offered a £7.5 million three-year deal to return to West Ham United.
The Sun says Curbs, who began his playing career at Upton Park, spent yesterday locked in talks with Hammers chairman Eggert Magnusson.
And the day ended with the club's new Icelandic owners offering him a three-year deal.
If he says yes, Curbs will be named as Alan Pardew's successor this week.
The Hammers' hierarchy have clearly decided to go for a man who turned an unfashionable side into an established Premiership club during an impressive 15-year reign at The Valley. -

The Times says Pardew, with a £1 million compensation package to console him, is likely to take a break from football. West Ham players insist they're gutted at the sacking of manager Alan Pardew.
Chairman Magnusson addressed the team in a private meeting to explain why he gave Pardew, 45, the boot.
A source revealed to The Sun: "The atmosphere has been grim - it was as if someone had died.
"Magnusson called the meeting to clear the air."
The players had planned to cancel their Christmas celebrations last night out of respect for Pardew. But backroom staff eventually persuaded them to go ahead - to try to raise team morale.
The source added: "The lads didn't feel like partying.
"They thought it would be in bad taste to be seen out on the town so soon after Alan had left.
"But they need something to lift the mood before the weekend."
