Singapore - HOPEless in Sports ???

Who are we kidding?
is it fair to say-
we are actually not serious in producing / nurturing 'world class' athletes.
of cos theres 'imported' talents.. but thats not the same
alot of resources and money wasted on so-called producing world class athletes
but the fact is just meritocratic selection and struggling making up the numbers...
we might as well 'buy' olympiad athletes from other countries , give them citizenship and have them win for us..... oh ya we have done it

countries with strong consistent history in victories in many sports categories - eg china , russia..
select potential atheletes from the youngest age- 3-4 year olds
coaches and experts select them by body types, flexiblity and strength in many areas. then quickly progress to specialized training and building up a methodological
regime.
these kids then start their life as specialized trainee students - the sports schools are set up for only those talents from strict selections. once they are in, theres no turning back. they are trained to compete and win.
singapore 'atheletes' comes from prestigious schools / jc.
done well academically first, then can go on safely to go compete in sports..
in whatever their interests lie..
important for them to get degrees first, so when they dont win (eventually)
they can go back to day jobs -

honestly, I would love to see the products of the Singapore Sports Schools.
I just want to compare the ideology with the Goal2010..
I think we should be able to see some results by 2008 or 2010, right?
From my understanding, if you are good, by 16-18, you are already good.
No need to wait till 20+, where you should be on your decline.
For example, swimming. -
Mah BT stopped talking about 2010. Pretending it never happened. Now he only talk about small HDB by private developers at same or higher price.
Even if Li J.W. wins, I still feel she's representing China even when she wears sg flag. Its really not the same. -
frankly i dont like the idea of using FT for sports.

A person skills improve through playing with tougher opponents. I saw the footballers and players from other country seem to come here and lose their skills. SG is like retirement camp for these people while they are paid big buck to hang around. -
I really feel hopeless for SGP when it comes to SEA games, not Asian Games, when our soccer team is kicked out by geninue Vietnam, Thai or etc teams.

no la , its not fair to compare it directly. In other countries , sportsman train full time whereas in singapore its often a part time passion.
The foreign governments are often more supportive of their sportsman while in singapore pathetic bonuses are offered as rewards -

if you r depending FTs to win medals for u, you r lying yourselves. and so far none of the FTs have shown outputs yet (not a single olympic golds)...
why r the sport ministers still wasting so much money on sports which never going to be success in sg?!?

Sg goverrnment simply not serious about real competitive sports..
at this time the sports school still not seriously producing athletes..
in asia, japan/korea held the world cup. becos their teams are the best in asia.
china holding olympics in 2008. cos they reaping gold medals so effortlessly like plucking apple from tree.
have to wait for the batch to graduate???? too late liao
if u talk about mon$y,, as like every sgporeans lor,, sports is a multimillion/billion industry~~!!!
all the good sportsmen & women,, although short career life, can reap in lots of money. not just about their own salaries, but sports can rake in publicity, sponsorships, endorsements, spectatorship, thats consumerism for their countries..
simple logic will tell u, when people are coming in to watch ur athletes or any sporting events,, it means making money time..
our gov seems like it just see sports as recreational & healthy lifestyle crap first..
ya.. organize marathon over Sheares bridge & earn some entry fees from people -

How to produce good sportsmen and women like that? You tell me. -

Still remember WC 2010 dream by gahmen, another talk big but never action case. If they really promote soccer we won't be case out by police while playing soccer in any open field. some soccer field had close- goal poles removed. You think the sport school can produce how many gold medal in 10 yrs time in Asia games not SEA games?

do u think our sportsmen are playing wif country pride.... or are they playing for big fat bonus should they win top 3 medals?
tis is wat make a big different comparing to other poor nation where they play wif pride for their country.
