Defenders and Keepers are highly under-rated and has rarely been able to win such award
and i can't beileve that AC Milan/Italy Maldini did not win it thruout his Pro-football career which is going to retire @ the end of year @ the age of 38 -

are you sure Maldini is still around? well, the award should be given to one who has the necessary credits and not out of pity, right?
Henry would have won it if Gunners won the cup last year. He is really a superb player and individual. -

moreover Cannavaro performed very well in e WC(which's e biggest stage in football)..

i agree with him. it has always been given to strikers. -
Cannavaro shouldn't have won the Ballon d'Or
Juve won the scudetto thanks to bribery and Italy won the World Cup with a huge slice of luck. The penalty against the Aussies were never meant to be.
I think Henry should have won the award instead.
It was because of his skills and influence that Arsenal made it to the UEFA Champions League final and France went on to the FIFA World Cup.
This award is not given due to sympathy. Yes, Maldini is a legend in defence but he did not do anything significant last year. He was frequently substituted at Milan (23 appearances in total, 4 as subs) and he had already retired from International Football.

Maldini should in fact be given the life time achievement award.
Alot of EPL fans, new to football fans, or England fans do not know much about teams and players from other countries, therefore ghimpheng you can save your breathe and refrain from arguing with them.
