  i did practise aikido last time
  but quit due to ns..cos no time
  
  basically is unarmed combat, teach u how to self-defense and stuff like tat
  alot of throws and joint locks

  Hi,
  
  Yeah, I did learn for a while. It's a kind of self defense. Quite similar to the Chinese version of Tai Qi. But technique is different. But rather fun though as it's cool.

  Aikido is fun. You get to learn how to break fall, learn how to roll, learn how to counter locks and grabs. Basically, Aikido is a self defence form of martial art. Aikido does not teach you to attack. Only to defend yourself in times of aggresion.

  They are teaching in most of the community center Geylang West CC is conducting too..12 lessons for only 79...i planning to join when i have time...Quite fun good for girls cos can learn how to fight molesters......

  akido copied from chinese wushu.
  chinese wushu unarmed combat is Jin Na Shou.
  even TKD is also copied from Chinese wushu.
  
  of all the martial arts, chinese wushu is still the best, got teach u unarmed combat, plus also weapons handling.

  Please do not spread wrong info to ppl if you do not know anything..
  
  Aikido was created by Morihei Ueshiba. He is a japanese, and he learnt Daito-ryu aiki-jujutsu which originated from Japan, NEVER from china.
  
  The only Kung Fu that works effectively in a street fight will be WING CHUN or Jeet Kune Do.

  Make no mistake, aikido looks graceful and all that, but it's definitely one of the toughest to master. O-sensei himself said before he passed away: "I am but a beginner in Aikido..."

  Hard to say, In order to Wing Chun to be effective, speed is one of the criteria. Before the Aikidoka want to do any Nage on him, he might already did the basic "Pak Sao".
  
  But nevertheless, Aikidokas are well trained in dodging.
