well at least 'lampa' is humble enuff to admit 3 titles in a row nor their eventual target of being the biggest club in the world by the year 20?? is still within reach of that of their rival clubs like manchester united, arsenal, liverpool, unlike that treacherous traitor kenyon..Originally posted by ghimpheng:Lampard: Chelsea players have no excuses if title defence fails
tribalfooball.com - November 24, 2006
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard says there can be no excuses if they fail to defend their Premiership title this season.
"I think things are in place for us to dominate and now it's up to us," he said. "We have the squad, the manager, above the manager from the top, the training facilities and the ambition. The rest is down to us. There are no excuses with what we've got in front of us. It's just up to us to perform on the pitch.
"It has to be our aim to overtake United. They've set the target in terms of results on the pitch and success off the pitch. We're not there yet, but you've got to aim to be the biggest and the best. If you're looking at a target, United have set their stall out, so I understand what Peter Kenyon [the Chelsea chief executive] is saying."
Such is Chelsea's relentless ambition that even the prospect of three successive titles - two more than they won in the first 99 years of their existence - does not sate them.
"United have set the benchmark and we want to match them by winning three in a row and then surpass them," Lampard said. "But I do feel they had almost a decade of dominance, really, along with Arsenal, to an extent. Three years would be great and it would be on the way to matching them, but there's probably a longer period of time we would have to reach to be able to say we have done what they've done."
