have nine players from our current squad in the shortlist for the FifPro World Player of the Year award, the best representation by any club.
FifPro is the international playersÂ’ union and their award was started last year.
A total of 43,000 players have been balloted on the 2006 best player plus a world XI.
The list of 55 nominations contains three of ChelseaÂ’s summer signings, Ashley Cole, Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko, plus Petr Cech, John Terry, Claude Makelele, Frank Lampard, Arjen Robben and Didier Drogba.
The Chelsea list increases to ten if on-loan Hernán Crespo is included and to 11 if Gallas is included
Ronaldinho was last yearÂ’s inaugural winner with Terry, Lampard, Makelele and Shevchenko all making the World XI.
This year's winner will be announced on November 6.

realistically, i'd bet on
cannavaro (world cup success)
buffon (world cup success)
pirlo (world cup success)
henry (world cup finalist, champions league finalist)
zidane (the main man behind france's world cup runner-up award)
cristiano ronaldo (no glory to boast of, but has glorious personal form for both country & club)
i love rooney & ronaldinho too, but i won't fancy their chances this time. -

Chelsea did not win any european cups, so i am surprised that they are nominated at all.
Henry should be there, as Gunners reached the finals...
MUFC players don't deserved to be named.
I believe Barca players should win it, given that they have to play on a football field as well as a sand pit to win the European cup and doing the double... I think unrivalled by any other clubs... -
Shevchenko, I only respected him when he was playing at AC Milan.
One reason for his departure to learn better english just doesn't rub with me given he got a US wife. I bet all of them speaking Russian at Chelsea now.. -
not club achievement......
it is player own achievement in thier own club and country.........it does not mean that your club did not win anything means u are lousy..........u might be excellent but ur team is lousy...........so it is player performance rather than how many trophy u won for the club and country -
are you sure any chelsea players did well in the WC cups or European cups?
cause I believe these are the real standards rather than in their own league.
For me, Lampard is a disappointment after the WC or you considered only the period that Chelsea is doing well in EPL?? -

sorry, I should not target Chelsea, but England team as a whole.
To me, being fed with so much EPL, I am very disappointed with England team as a whole, and if their personal or team performance are judged, I don't think that any England players should win anything for it will provide false hope for future players. -

Serie A involve in match-fixing and other scandal still better ? lol......i think epl and la liga can be compared now Serie A is out for a year without juventus......but next year Serie A will be back @ the top hopefully without Scandal
and i know u are not targeting chelsea as england really did badly but they look @ both club and internationals achievement so maybe Henry Will get it since Arsenal Reach Champions League Final And France Reach World Cup Final And Lost Both -

Ronaldinho should stand a hi chance to take the gong again. Had a great season at Barca till towards the end of season where he kinda fades off. Dreadful WC where he was almost anonymous for most of the matches.
If not F Cannavaro should be the next in line ba. Unspectacular but steady performance for Juventus. Excellent performance for the Azzuris in the WC shld propelled him in the top 3 choices.

I do watch la liga matches @ times since it is telecast but i do not watch it all the time i only watch real madrid and barcelona but i also watch valencia because i like david villa ?
and did i say that LFC fan cannot watch other league ? how do you enjoy their soccer when it is not even telecast ? of coz i knew that palermo exist before they started 2 @ the top temporary and of coz different pple may watch different league but most pple watch epl and la liga
