West Ham United are set to pull off a major coup by the signing Argentine stars Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were all thought to be competing for the duo, along with some of the continents elite including Bayern Munich and Milan.
However, The Hammers have struck a deal with Media Sports Investments (MSI) - who own the rights to the Corinthians pair.
South American sources claim Portsmouth were also in line to broker a move, but it seems MSI have decided that a move to West Ham will best serve their prize assets.
The deal is believed to be initially for a season-long loan for the duo - but it could become permanent if all parties are happy, although it remains to be seen whether West Ham could affor them with both players carrying price tags of over £15 million.
The pair are both currently already in England ahead of this weekend's Brazil versus Argentina clash at Arsenal's brand new Emirates Stadium and this has aided the move.
A statement on Tevez's website states a move to Upton Park for himself and Mascherano has been sealed.
"Carlitos Tevez along with his former Corinthians team-mate, Javier Mascherano, has signed a contract to play with West Ham United of England," read the statement. -

A statement on Tevez's personal website: "Carlitos Tevez, along with his team-mate Javier Mascherano, signs a contract to play for West Ham United of England."
Maybe they thought West Ham united is the biggest club in London...

Doubt so...
The move is subject to personal agreement with the player as well; if the player doesn't like the club, he can still opt out of the deal and the move collapses.
Still, IF Carlos Tevez does agree, he can at least be guaranteed first team soccer at West Ham, rather than Man Utd, Chelski or Arsenal. -

Well, we will all know the answer by tomorrow morning 7am when the transfer market shut.
Actually I think its quite possible, cos these 2 players donÂ’t want to return to Brazil, their owners intend to sell them at a very high price that I think only Chelsea can afford to pay but not willing. So the next best thing for their owners is a loan deal but big clubs donÂ’t like to take players on loan so along came West Ham to fit in.
Do you all think West Ham got a chance to challenge for the premier league crown or a champions league spot with them? -

With the addition of Tevez, a prolific striker who's capable of being both subtle and barnstorming, Upton Park is now home to one of the most fearsome strikeforces in England. The Argentinian will surely be an automatic first choice, leaving Pardew the luxury of choosing between between Dean Ashton - when he returns to fitness - Bobby Zamora, Marlon Harewood, Carlton Cole and Teddy Sheringham.

I don't think its the big clubs that missed them, I think its more like their owners are asking for a very high price for them maybe around $30m each and none are willing to pay that amount. Since they cannot get the price they wanted, they may have decided to wait till next year cos these 2 are still rather young at 22 yrs old only. So they may have decided to loan them to a smaller club for a year cos these 2 don't want to return to Brazil and big clubs don't like to take players on loan and realistically, tho West Ham's deal come with an option to sign them after their loan deals end, few belief they can afford them. Even the takeover of Aston Villa F.C. costed Randy Lerner £62.6m only and these 2 players cost around $60m? -
