Terry is new England Captain

John Terry has been named the new England Captain beating Gerrard to the post.
England manager Steve McClaren told the FA website: "Choosing a captain is one of the most important decisions a coach has to make. I'm certain I've got the right man in John Terry. I'm convinced he will prove to be one of the best captains England has ever had.
"John has all the attributes an international captain needs: leadership, authority, courage, ability, tactical awareness and a total refusal to accept second-best. He has been an inspiration for Chelsea and is at his best in adversity.
"Over the five years I've been involved with the England coaching set-up I've seen first hand the respect that John has among his fellow players. There are a number of strong leaders in the squad and he will not lack support on and off the pitch." -
Woo~~~~ though I feel sorry Stevie G could not be the skipper. BUT they 2 have GOOD leadership qualities.

I guess McClaren made a wise choice by picking Terry over Gerrard to be his captain, as he is probably the best choice compare to the other 2 back-stabbers. Gerrard & Lampard.

As if it was only svenÂ’s fault... the whole team and not just one man should bear the responsibility when a team fail and I think they forgot that Steve McClaren was SvenÂ’s No.2 Â… whereas Terry did not criticize Sven but only said good things and the future with McClaren in charge.
I guess he was smarter by not back-stabbing the former boss unlike the other 2. -

Don't think Steve G make a good captain, he like to go forward more than defending. Look at Liverpool, without him is a different team, too depend on him. Anyway good to see England have 2 good leader, one behind and the other leading the attack.

In any case, Terry's a good choice. He's a solid, reliable player who can play consistently well. I remember reading about him giving motivation talks to the team before each World Cup match. -
Regardless of whose fault it was still not the right thing to do. Cos if you think, would you be comfortable with these 2 guys after seeing what they have done to the former boss? While he was there, they respected him, said nice things about him, showed support for him and everything else. Then the moment they knew he was no longer boss, they criticize him and put all the blame on him as tho they didn't played a part.
This was someone who had helped and groomed them all these years. It just shows these people are not worthy of being the captain or even a friend. Gerrard or Lampard were not even first team members and sven gave them their chances.
I guess Terry was the right choice at the end. -

you don't talk bad about your boss or disrespect him and let him know while hes still in power. its common knowledge and sense.
however after that, you can do so to point out mistakes made(for rectification) and perhaps to save your own skin/for your own benefit -

1. congrats terry. stvie g a vc is not a bad choice.
2. captaincy is not dependant on position u play. u can b a keeper or a fwd. wht's impt is the leadership qty, ability to bridge bet coach n players, get player's respect and good on/off field character. but at the end of the day, the gaffer mks the choice, so let's live with it.
3. dun think all the criticism made on sven by lmprd or stvie g mks a diff. mcC knows this is all media hype, n if he can speaks his mind, i m sure he has a few things to say abt sven as well. if u get enuf respects fm the players, they wll not backstab u.
regardless, i think ingerland will be going thru a period of dark times under stve mcC. dun think he's winner. -

To be honest, i think there is no fun being captain... Terry especially being a defender if he makes a mistake, normally will result in a goal for the other team will have to face alot of critics from the newspapers.
I bet in 4 yrs time, people will be asking for terry's head just like they did with Shearea and Beck before him. -

terry is captain i'm ok wif dat! as long as not neville or looney can already.
but i feel gerrard should be better choice since he can lead in attacks, whereas a captain in defence will hold strong solid defend which might be boring. -
I guess Gerrard will never be captain of England for this lifetime since Terry is younger or about the same age as him... At best he will be Vice cap or Stand-in-Cap.
Maybe the next captain will be Rooney when its up for grabs again cos he is still young and in 5 yrs time he will only be 25 or 26 the right age to take over. -

I cant believe the news when i hear it. Not that I think JT is not good enough but I just feel hes not inspirational enough.
I certainly hope this is a right choice and I hope it doesnt come back to haunt Steve McClaren for his entire career. -

Players that are too young are normally not consider as there was no need to put additional burden on them.
