Greatest Athletes From Individual Sports

With so much discussion on football in this section, just wondering if anyone out there actually has any athlete - from individual sports past or present - in mind whom you'd consider a great athlete(and why do you reckon they're great?). To kick things off, I'd start with 2 of my personal favourites :
Roger Federer (Swiss), Tennis - Quite simply, the most naturally gifted tennis player I've ever seen and I don't think it's an exaggeration to suggest he plays tennis from a different planet. Just an absolute delight to watch when he's in the mood and with 8 Grand Slams under his belt(Sampras holds the all-time record with 14 Grand Slams) at just 24, it surely is just a matter of time before he cements his place as the most successful, if not the greatest, tennis player of all time - so long as he keeps his motivation and stays injury-free.
Ayrton Senna (Brazilian), Formula 1 - Although he doesn't hold too many records in terms of drivers' title won, his premature death did not help his cause in this endeavour. Nevertheless, for all those fortunate enough to have lived to watch him race, I don't think it's hard to see he was a class apart from most of his peers wherever he raced. While it's debatable as to whether Michael Schumacher will still have been as successful had Senna survived the fatal crash at Imola in '94, I don't think anyone will dispute the flamboyance, charisma and sheer class Senna brought into F1 is something that has not been seen since. -

1. jesse owens, who not only dominated the sport, but his achievements also transcend racial and political issues that dominated during that era.
2. muhammad ali - the greatest of all time. enuf said.
3. rudy hartono - who else can win all england 8 times (7 in a row?)
4. jahangir khan - 10 successive british open & 6 times world champ.
5. nicol davids - malaysia's first bonafide world #1 -
its definitely maradona when it comes to football.

Emil Zátopek (1922-2000)
One of the greatest runners of the 20th Century, Emil Zátopek achieved legendary status when he won the 5,000, the 10,000 and the marathon at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki.
"The Locomotive" or the "Bouncing Czech" as he came to be known, dominated long distance running from 1948 until 1954 when he won a remarkable 38 consecutive 10,000 meter races, including 11 in 1949 alone. He set 18 world records over various distances including every record from 5K to 30K, and won four Olympic gold medals and one silver.
He was the first to run a 10K under 29 minutes and the first to run 20K in one hour.

For a distance runner, he was peerless at his time. -
His Royal Airness : Micheal Jordan. Said to be able to sustain in mid air during a jump for more than 3 secs. Won the most MVP awards in his career in NBA. Lead the chicago Bulls to a wininng streak for i think around 7 seasons.
