No need L Toni lah... why would they want to sell a 30yrs old striker then go and buy another 30yrs old striker for? Strikers normally don't play till very old... Once reach 30, they start to slow down and for strikers, this could mean the team winning or losing. Midfielders & Defenders are different, they can last longer.Originally posted by red_amoeba:did he play in the recent WC ?
Oh great, Man U can go on to try to sign Lucas Toni, then Rossi can go on loan to WB and that Polish guy can come....![]()
They already have Rooney, Saha, Smith & Rossi in the striker department so i don't think there's a need to find a replacement.Originally posted by used:senna is already 30. shouldn't they be thinking of replacing ruud? rossi will struggle in the epl.
Rossi small sizeOriginally posted by used:but rossi is too lightweight and cannot hold off strong challenges. fergie is showing him too much face. hopefully he is doing the right thing
Well, even then they are still stronger than liverpoolOriginally posted by nanren4ever:I think Man U should look for a striker like Dirk Kuyt rather than trying 2 sign Senna. Up front, they only have Saha and Rooney who are proven players. Rossi is still young, while Solskjaer's fitness is still in doubt.
Anyway, being a Liverpool fan, I can't say how pleased I am to see that Man U most probably won't be at their strongest for the 1st match of the season.
Stronger than Liverpool? Kindly enlighten me on who you have in central midfield for the first match of the seasonOriginally posted by zocoss:Well, even then they are still stronger than liverpool... Anyway, liverpool can have Dirk Kuyt after all, they have been interested with him since last season and still is... Dunno why he is not interested on a switch to liverpool.
Anyway average player... but still better than their no1 striker Crouch...![]()
well, there is Giggs & O'shea. These 2 together last season when on to win 9 out of 10 games in a row and who knows, by this week Senna might join them liao.Originally posted by Qing^.^:Stronger than Liverpool? Giggs & O'Shea in comparision to Gerrard & Alonso?Originally posted by zocoss:well, there is Giggs & O'shea. These 2 together last season when on to win 9 out of 10 games in a row and who knows, by this week Senna might join them liao.
Anyway, games are not won just in the midfield. The defence have to do their job which both teams can but Liverpool upfront weak, their best striker Peter Crouch is not even Saha's standard. What more do i need to say.
No I am not insisting, I am just stating what happened last season. Liverpool with their first choice pairing of Gerrard and Alonso or Garcia for the whole of last season still didnÂ’t do as well as Man Utd despite not having their first choice pair of Keane & Scholes for more than half the season.Originally posted by Qing^.^:Giggs & O'Shea in comparision to Gerrard & Alonso?
Well if you insist that the former pair are better...
Senna is a if and even if he joins, Senna & Giggs vs Gerrard & Alonso?
Yes I agree that games are not won just in midfield, but majority of the battles are fought in midfield.
Hmm, I wouldn't compare Crouch to Saha. They are 2 different type of players. Crouch is a target man while Saha is more of a mobile type of stiker who drifts to the flanks and between the midfield.
If you do watch Liverpool's matches, you would see how valuable Crouch is with his knockdowns and the fact that his presence on the field creates space for on-rushing midfielders like Gerrard and Garcia. So I wouldn't say he pales when compared to Saha.
Saha is injury prone too if you need a reminder on that![]()
Do you know what is the meaning of going downhill or not? Its like you are in a state of denial more like it. 2 yrs ago they were 3rd place, last year they came up second... This is not a club going downhill as you put it.Originally posted by ^VioS^:No one can deny...that Man United is going downhill.
The only way they can turn things around is by getting rid of Fergie.
Paying 18.6 million pounds for a lightweight midfielder who has fairly accurate passing skills with almost no tenacity for tackling....wat a waste of sterling.
They should have gotten someone more combative and a real ball winner.
Losing Ruud (at 30 yrs of age) was always going to be a reality...to me, he was never in the same class as Henry, Sheva and might I even say Rooney? Ruud's more of a goal-poacher rather than a striker with dribbling and scoring skills. The majority of his goals came from within the 6-yrd box or hitting in rebounds, eating up the scraps.
Looking at what Man U has in its striking dept, it lacks REAL quality.
Saha - Not a proven goal scorer, inconsistent
Rossi - Inexperienced, weak built, lacks goal scoring instinct, etc...not enough quality
Smith - Tends to be hot headed, returning for a long injury, unproven goal scorer
Solskjaer - Lao liao, way past his prime, should retire soon
Rooney - Hot headed, stubborn, getting fat
What Man U needs is a strong built striker (suitable for the English game), young, determined, tall & fast paced. Someone like Fernando Torres. Glazer should have saved the Carrick money for Torres.
Getting rid of the olden generation is also on the cards...let Giggs, Scholes & Solskjaer...time to move on guys....West Brom, Pompey & Reading need senior citizens like u in their teams to guide the young ones.
Seriously think Man U needs to rebuid the team entirely, or else its gonna be Chelsea for the next 5-7 years at the helm
any pool fans wanna challenge on tis?Originally posted by zocoss:Do you know what is the meaning of going downhill or not? Its like you are in a state of denial more like it. 2 yrs ago they were 3rd place, last year they came up second... This is not a club going downhill as you put it.
Going downhill is something like when in 1992, Graeme Souness despite winning 3 successive titles with Rangers in 89, 90 & 91 took over Liverpool and until today they have not won a league title despite winning a few before 1992. Yeah this one can say going downhill since 14yrs not one league title sure can qualify for it.
There is nothing wrong with paying 18.6m for a good midfielder like Carrick. We have all seen what he has done for Spurs. If he doesn't perform, his actual price will be 14m. Anyway, if Arsenal can pay $12m for Theo who never play a single match yet, which is worst? Ten years ago when Man u paid then British record sum $3.75m for Roy Keane people said it was a waste of money... Look how roy has turn out for united. All those jokers that said roy was a waste of money... Sure look like idiots today and i am sure these same jokers that talk about Carrick will look like idiots in time to come. And the sum of 18.6m is not even close to the present day British record.
And if as you say Man U has problems in their striking dept, I suggest to go take a look a Liverpool first then talk.
Peter Crouch - 1st Choice?
Whose the 2nd, 3rd, 4th?
I will take Man u's strikers any day compare to Liverpool's.
