MICHAEL CARRICK will join Manchester United in a £14.5million deal next week.
Alex Ferguson has finally made his first summer signing after Spurs accepted UnitedÂ’s improved offer last night.
And Real Madrid claim they will complete the £10.3m capture of Red Devils striker Ruud van Nistelrooy today.
Midfielder Carrick has yet to agree personal terms with United but the England World Cup man will double his wages by signing a £50,000-a-week contract to move to Old Trafford. United made their first move for Carrick, 25 today, last month.
But their £10m bid was instantly rejected by Spurs, who told United to double their offer for the holding midfielder.
Boss Fergie refused to chuck in the towel after identifying Carrick as the man to finally fill the hole left by Roy KeaneÂ’s departure last season.
Now Fergie has persuaded his board to raise their offer to £14.5m and Spurs have agreed to cash in after Carrick made it clear he wanted to join United...

MANCHESTER UNITED'S laboured summer transfer-dealings finally sparked into life last night with the sale of Ruud van Nistelrooy and the capture of Michael Carrick.
Van Nistelrooy will be unveiled by Real Madrid today after United agreed an £11.5million deal with the Spanish giants for the Dutch striker.
And United finally struck a deal with Tottenham to bring England's World Cup midfielder Carrick to Old Trafford.
He is expected to put pen to paper on a four-year deal with United within the next 24 hours after Spurs reluctantly agreed to the transfer.
And while United refused to comment on van Nistelrooy, Real issued a statement on their website last night confirming a deal had been struck to bring the 30-year-old to the Bernabeu on a three-year contract.
United responded by saying: "We have given permission for Ruud van Nistelrooy to travel to Real Madrid for a medical. But the terms of agreement are yet to be finalised."
Carrick, meanwhile, who celebrates his 25th birthday today, could be unveiled as a United player as early as today, although with personal terms and a medical still to be sorted, next week seems more likely.
Carrick will see his wages more than double from £20,000-a-week to £45,000-a-week. United boss Fergie (below) identified Carrick as one of his top summer targets before the World Cup, but saw an initial bid of £10m rejected.
The deal appeared to be in real jeopardy earlier this week when the United boss insisted he would not be bullied into paying "stupid" money for new players.
But Fergie was given the go-ahead from United owners the Glazers to submit an improved bid for Carrick.
Spurs were so desperate to hold on to Carrick they altered their wage and bonus structure to match the package offered by United, but the player insisted on moving.
United will pay around £12m up front for Carrick, with the rest dependant on success-related clauses built into the deal.
United are also in the market for Argentina World Cup duo Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez. Midfielder Mascherano's agents have already been involved in talks with United, while striker Tevez has emerged as an option to replace van Nistelrooy. -

I hope chelsea will not sign ashley cole. He doesn't play the same way ever since he came back from injury. If chelsea do pay more than 15 millions for ashley cole then arsenal must be laughing out loud behind their back. I think a simple and not so popular left back like grosso will do the trick.

I predict another flop.
Carrick is good, but not influential. Not a player for Man U. That's why I predict he'll be a flop.

I think we should give the guy a chance.. Carrick is a tested player with lots of EPL experience.. I believe Carrick will live up to his price tag. Mascherano and Tevez, please come.. kthanksbye~

Where got 18m? it is reported 14.5m, actually 12m only by The Sun newspaper as United will pay around £12m up front for Carrick, with the rest dependant on success-related clauses built into the deal.
Spurs where got happy? they were so desperate to hold on to Carrick they altered their wage and bonus structure to match the package offered by United... And for stingy spurs, that is a very hard thing for them to do and it shows how much they didn't want to lose him. But since Carrick insisted on moving and left with 2yrs contract only and refuse to sign a new one, they have to let him go.
Remember Duff, they even try to make chelsea pay part of duff salary for them if they buy him.
Anyway, still a good deal for united. Spurs wouldn't have been so good last year if not for carrick working hard for them in the middle of the park.
