Cannavaro dealing with high balls

I always wonder how cannavaro is able to deal with high and long balls, especially with his height at only 175-176cm. It is definitely not tall for any outfield player, what more a centre back. I am amazed that he can win headers against the tallest of strikers, sometimes even 10cm more than his height.
I know that he is well-known for his ability to read the game, intercept, tackle and has a fast pace to match with pacey strikers too, but what about his heading? Has anyone wondered how he dealt with long balls? -

the ability to jump high and spring. short doesnt mean cannot jump high.

His reading of the game is excellent. He knows when to jump for the high balls. However, his mistake in such jumps can be costly. A very good example is Euro 2000 final. Because of his mis-timed jump, instead of clearing the ball, it became a cushion back header to Wiltord to knock in the equalizer.

just look at the nba players most of them can jump 140% their height so why cant canna?
