DUFF to quit Chelsea for Spurs

DAMIEN DUFF is ready to quit champions Chelsea and join London rivals Tottenham in an £11million deal.
The Irish international winger is set to move across the capital in the next couple of days where a four-year £60,000-a-week deal awaits his signature.
Duff, 27, is ready to join Martin Jol's push for UEFA Cup glory as he fears his first-team chances will become even more restricted at Stamford Bridge.
After Jose Mourinho's purchase of Germany's Michael Ballack and Ukrainian Andriy Shevchenko, it looks certain the Blues boss will revert to a 4-4-2 formation that would mean even fewer opportunities for the likes of Duff, Arjen Robben and Shaun Wright-Phillips.
White Hart Lane chief Jol will be delighted to cure his long-running left-sided problem and Duff's arrival will mean that he and England starlet Aaron Lennon will provide the bullets for £11m summer signing Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe.
While it will leave Spurs fans jubilant, they also will be concerned that Defoe is likely to be sacrificed to help balance the books, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle all keen. And Michael Carrick also could be on his way to Old Trafford.
Spurs have already spent £22m this summer on midfielder Didier Zokora from St Etienne and defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto from Lens plus Berbatov. Duff was one of the first signings after Roman Abramovich arrived at Chelsea three years ago, costing £17m from Blackburn. -

He is too old already for a winger... Tho he is good but wingers need to run a lot so if get him now, good but in 2 yrs time cannot run like before already. Better pay a little more and get Lennon better, i think 19 or 20 yrs old only, can run very fast also... But Spurs won't sell him for sure.

i think it'll be 4-1-3-2. rotate between makelele and essien. and joe cole or robben will be part of the 3 attacking midfielders, and lampard will be a centralised midfielder allowing ballack to attack more.

cannavaro and zambrotta most probaly going RM, due to the chance to link up with fabio capello again.

DAMIEN DUFF has been offered a two-year contract extension by Chelsea.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho hopes it will help keep the Irish winger at Stamford Bridge.
Duff has a year left on his £50,000-a-week deal but has grown increasingly unsettled at his lack of regular first-team action.
He is a top target for Spurs chief Martin Jol.
But after selling strikers Eidur Gudjohnsen and Carlton Cole already this summer, Chelsea boss Mourinho is reluctant to lose any more attacking players.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have inquired over the availability of Gianluca Zambrotta at Juventus. Although the World Cup-winning full-back is understood to favour a move to Real Madrid, where he would link up again with the departed Juventus coach Fabio Capello, Chelsea are keen to strengthen their options in defence.
However, the Premiership champions' principal target to replace Del Horno remains Ashley Cole, Arsenal's England left-back. Cole, who has made public the extent of his dispute with the Gunners prior to the publication of his autobiography this month, has no intention of remaining at Arsenal. However, with so few clubs capable of competing for his services, Chelsea are refusing to meet the £16m release clause in Cole's contract.
Chelsea are considering the sale of Damien Duff. Tottenham lodged a £5m offer at the weekend that was immediately rebuffed and Duff was yesterday still training with Chelsea at their base in Surrey. The 27-year-old, who cost £17m from Blackburn three years ago, had hoped to conclude a contract extension on his £70,000-per-week deal, which has two years to run. In close-season contract talks, however, Chelsea informed him he would have to take a significant pay cut to remain at Stamford Bridge.
Having made only 63 Premiership starts in his three seasons in west London, Duff has failed to reproduce the form that saw Chelsea and Manchester United enter a bidding war for his signature. Tottenham, though, must at least double their bid to be sure of securing Duff. -

i hope lampard continue his form for england in chelsea color., cole break his leg again, calvalho got hi groin stamp by rooney again and out for 6 mths.
