New FIFA Top 10 Ranking

LONDON (Reuters) - World Cup winners Italy have soared 11 places to second in the latest FIFA rankings although 2002 champions Brazil held on to top spot despite losing in the quarter-finals in Germany.
France, beaten on penalties by Italy in Sunday's final, rose four places to fourth while Argentina, knocked out in the quarter-finals, are up six places in third.
Germany were also big movers, rising 10 places to ninth -- their first top 10 placing for more than two years -- after reaching the semi-finals.
The first post-World Cup rankings were based on new criteria with more consideration taken of the importance of the match and the strength of opponents.
The previous ranking system had long been criticised and was not helped by the first-round exits of the then second-ranked Czech Republic and fifth-rated United States in Germany.

Such ranking wasn't accurate at all. I doubt that czech republic is fit to be in the top 10.

I dun understand how come Portugal end up falling one place while England rised by 5 places. That's totally illogical..But for Czech Republic , I gotta defend it though. Besides this tournament , Czech Republic has been one of the top teams in Europe. Due to injuries , they performed badly this World Cup. With a full squad , they have shown how strong they can be. Anyway i read it in some reports before this year's WC on the reason why teams like Mexico and USA are always in the top 4 or 5 regularly.
That's because their continental competition (CONCAAF championship) occurs once every 2 yrs, as compared to Europe and South America which is held once every 4 yrs. And the fifa ranking points weighs more in important matches, such as continental competitions and the qualifiers. -
