they are branding him a joke not because he missed the penalty.
he took the penalty before the referee blew his whistle!!! -
There are afew players in the current squad are better then him, he don't deserve to play in the first place.
I think Sven is making the English players look like a fool, so he can don't take any responsibility for the defeat.
In the first place the English is a fool to choose Sven as their coach. -

Even if he had missed like Lampard & Gerrard that wasn't the point, It was the rule that he didn't understand or followed, that was the reason why they say he is a joke. This time Carragher got scare, changed his mind, hesitated in his run-up and fired a low shot which Ricardo saved easily.

his performance in the epl should have given him a place alongside terry, instead of having ferdinand.
but then again, pardon my ignorance.. is jamie a good spot kick taker? As in, in liverpool, he is a regular spot kick taker? why is he chosen to be the one to be brought on to take penalty?
i didn't know he had this hidden talent of being a spot kick taker..

Yea...His performances for pool was great last season.But Like it or not the sole purpose to brin carragher on is to score a penalty.He flunked it and was branded a joke soley becoz he missed it by commiting a stupid unnecessary mistake.He took the penalty be4 the ref blew the whistle....by then Ricardo would have a better idea to gauge which way he would go for....Originally posted by dragg:read the starting thread again!!!

I'm not a liverpool supporter but i really don't see why they made him the scapegoat after England poor showing at the World Cup.
The only reason why Eriksson sub him on is to take penalties.
He shud have waited for the whistle.
But it's unfair to brand him a joke.
Lampard is even worse. Throughout the whole tournament, he kept shooting when there're better options around and even if he's presented with a golden opportunity to score, he misses. He too, misses the penalty rite?
So who's the joker now?
