come on you ROOs.Originally posted by walesa:Australia beating Italy tomorrow is no tougher feat than South Korea beating them at the same stage 4 years ago - I'm living Hiddink's dream, so there's no doubt where my loyalty lies as far as this match is concerned...
That said, it'd be nice - assuming Australia beat Italy tomorrow - if the Australian government offered some sort of bonus to Hiddink the way the Koreans did 4 years ago(Hiddink was offered USD1 million for each match Korea won in the knockout phase in 2002).![]()
actually i support italy last time, dunno too much epl influence made me support england.Originally posted by finoq:seems there's more people supporting Australia...![]()

Sadly, the defence of today's Italy is virtually non-existent and nothing to shout about(compared to the great old 'catenaccio' defences of yesteryears). It proved telling 4 years ago that the Cannavaro-Nesta partnership was quintessential to the Azzuris' destiny(when Nesta missed the Korea clash, the defence literally went AWOL as there was no telepathy and understanding between his replacement) - and when Nesta went, so did the Italians.Originally posted by BÃ¥seline:The Man in the middle will hv a hard time cooling the temperament of this potentially physical match. The Azzuris will frustrate the Aussies with play acting, mean defence and more play acting.
Italy to win this very low scoring match. 1-0 to Azzuri.![]()
this year's italy squad is def more stronger than four years ago. particularly improved is the attack with toni, gilardino and iaquinta all tall and strong, think can cause lots of problems in the air.Originally posted by walesa:Sadly, the defence of today's Italy is virtually non-existent and nothing to shout about(compared to the great old 'catenaccio' defences of yesteryears). Honestly, I'd say the Australians are better poised to beat Italy than the South Koreans were in 2002 (in part due to the fact Australia have got bigger and more experienced players, in part due to the fact Italy were actually a stronger side in 2002 than they are now) - and if Hiddink can work his magic in the absence of home support, I see no reason why history cannot repeat itself...
No doubt the Italians will try to frustrate the Aussies if they're ahead - but whether the Italians(spearheaded by the profligate Toni and Gilardino) can even put themselves in that position remains to be seen...
