In the midst of all the fervent on just about every other aspect of the World Cup, just thought I'd create a thread for football fans to share the biggest upsets they have witnessed. To keep things in perspective, it would be nice if people only post their thoughts based on the matches they've seen(and also give your reasons for your choice, folks) and not regurgitate some titanic feats from football annals. I'll start things off with the 3 biggest upsets I've watched from the World Cup...
1. Cameroon 1-0 Argentina ( Italia '90 )
This has no doubt got to be the biggest of those I've had the privilege of watching. An unheralded side against the much vaunted Maradona-inspired world champions which proved to be the harbinger of the arrival of African teams as a force to be reckoned with at the World Cup.
2. Norway 2-1 Brazil ( France '98 )
I don't think too many people remember this game, but this was certainly something special. Norway shocked what was then the reigning world champions whom many felt were invincible - one of the most entertaining(in the last 20 mins anyway) giantkilling feat at the WC where success wasn't founded on defensive play.
3. Senegal 1-0 France ( Korea/Japan '02 )
This was virtually a replay of the 1990 opener - France, defending world and european champions, came unstuck against another Africa debutant just when every man and his dog had put his mortgage on a French whitewash.

Come on, stop quoting results off football annals - very soon, we'll have everything from N Korea 1-0 Italy in '66 to Senegal 1-0 France in '02!Originally posted by Marco_Simone:USA 1 England 0 in 1950 World Cup

Hungary thrashed Germany 8-3 in an earlier game.
No idea what you barking about...Originally posted by walesa:Go get a life - you're as lame as your posts!
About the drivel which is nothing constructive your limited intellect permits you to stick up and which does little to contribute to a productive discussion...Originally posted by Marco_Simone:No idea what you barking about...

What is wrong with his posts? Please state a reason for your anger, if not the one with the limited intellect is not him, but you.Originally posted by walesa:About the drivel which is nothing constructive your limited intellect permits you to stick up and which does little to contribute to a productive discussion...
Would you mind reading my first post in this thread? What good is it for anyone to post something which they've never seen and are unable to give reasons to substantiate their choice, but merely quote chunks off football annals?Originally posted by JusStatic:What is wrong with his posts? Ok so now I know the reasons and do not want to involve in an arguement.Originally posted by walesa:Would you mind reading my first post in this thread? Do you not understand that? Or do you think that makes for any sort of a healthy discussion? Or maybe, you would like to shed some light on the US-England clash in 1950 on his behalf to substantiate his claim if you were privileged enough to have watched that match?
I suppose you could always start another thread detailing "A Historical Compilation of the Greatest Upsets in Football" if you found this thread boring and anger-ridden...![]()
You mean the Ecuadoran? He was sent home before the tournament ended, wasn't he?Originally posted by ghimpheng:the ref kelong and got sacked and I think ban from football

There's no anger(refer to my first reply quoted above) to begin with - no worries, I'm more than happy to have a proper discussion. But I suppose you can't have a sensible discussion if you're going to have clowns sprouting unsubstantiated drivel(just refer to first the England-USA and then the Hungary-Germany examples cited by Marco_Simone) from time to time...
