MANYOO ACCUSED OF LYING OVER ROONEY'S INJURYhttp://www.worldcup365.com/story/0,16726,8501_1286144,00.html#
ManYoo have been accused of deliberately lying in an attempt to prevent Wayne Rooney from playing at the World Cup.
A statement released, at the behest of the FA and Rooney, on Friday evening by the two independent medical experts who treated his broken foot flatly contradicted previous Old Trafford claims about the striker's injury.
According to Professors Angus Wallace and Chris Moran, Rooney was able to recover from his broken foot in just seven weeks because the injury was unusual.
"We were able to confirm that this fracture was quite different from the typical metatarsal shaft fracture, but was a fracture involving the spongy bone at the base of the metatarsal," the statement read. "This bone heals approximately three times more quickly than the hard [bone of the metatarsal shaft. Wayne had discomfort in his foot for only five days and has now been pain-free for six weeks."
As noted by The Guardian, 'The statement exposes United's misleading and inaccurate public declaration on May 29 that it was a double fracture, making it "an injury which takes longer to heal".'
Furthermore, Wallace and Moran also stated that, following scans on Rooney's broken metatarsal on June 7, they believed he would be ready to return for Tuesday's game against Sweden.
'That appears to contradict a United statement released at midnight on the Thursday after the scan which stated that the "expert independent medical view is that Wayne has a good chance of being fit after the group stage"', says The Daily Telegraph.
Their comments also explain why the FA and ManYoo were unable to agree on a joint statement following the all-important scan in Manchester.
'United claimed the words they used at the time were taken directly from the conclusions of the independent medical experts. However, the fact the doctors have gone public with their belief that the 20-year-old could play before the knockout phase is a major embarrassment for Old Trafford, and exposes just how determined the club were to delay Rooney's return to action.'
Previous reports claimed that the FA were 'suspicious' of ManYoo's 'handling of Rooney's rehabilitation and, in particular, their public claims that the striker was unlikely to play this summer.'
David Gill and Brian Barwick, the chief executives of ManYoo and England respectively, are said to have had a heated exchange in which Barwick branded his ManYoo counterpart as "irresponsible".
Rooney has publicly refused to comment on his recuperation, but it is known that Sir Alex Ferguson sought, on more than one occasion, to persuade his star player to withdraw from the tournament of his own accord.
According to The Guardian, 'Rooney was 'distinctly unimpressed' with Ferguson's attitude.
