I hate saying this(and that's coming from someone who has never liked England all my life from the fact that they're the only 'country' with 4 representatives to all the shananigans their fans would invariably cause ever-so-often), but this is without a doubt the finest England side in a generation. It also goes without saying they have the makings of having a great campaign - still, I wouldn't see the eventual champion coming from outside Germany, Argentina and England.Originally posted by Poolman:Not by scoring ....

No doubt , John Terry and maybe Ferdinand has been doing quite a good job , especially Terry , a role model of a very good centre-back .

Their defence had already improved markedly in Japan/Korea 4 years ago when Eriksson took charge, but this time around, they've just got the entire package - without a doubt, they have the best defence and midfield in the tournament for me. 4 years on, with players like Ferdinand, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Gerrard and Owen having gained so much more experience at both club and international level, you've got to feel they're better equipped to succeed this time - and yes, the defence will be the cornerstone of their success should that happen. -
England MAY win although it is unlikely...but with rooney coming back,there's a probabilty,if only owen is on form,and lampard stop screwing up,england chances would be very high...and i dun think crouch is really that good to replace owen though he scored a goal against T&T,everytime i see him gets the ball,he can only do short passes,and england wun be relying on him only to win,cos he cant dribble well and his shots are always off target...

There is a problem for those who said England can't make it ...... they judge England on just 2 matches ..... if you saw England thru'out the qualifiers and Friendlies , the defense are a magnificent lot , it needs something special to break them down .

England may have qualify for 2nd round but they will be knocked out sooner or later. Sorry Gerrard, Carragher and Crouch but your team is not good enough .

Gerrard... he will score from 30 meters out again at the finals.....
Becks, he will make another perfect cross from 35 meters out for Rooney or Crouch or Owen to score during the finals.

If you're a diehard fan of England and so certain it will win why not show ur support and prove yourself right by betting all ur $ on england to win. i think the oddds are good as everybody is betting on brazil or germany or other to win.

You are right. Although the team seems united but their play kinda betrays an underlying level of individualism (either that or the Sven had bad tactics). 1. Overlapping runs by Ashley Cole were not utilised by Joe Cole. It could possibly be a tactic to draw players away from J Cole but I hardly noticed any occassion where J Cole will pass the ball to A Cole to deliver a cross.
2. Carragher isn't a great crosser of the ball and there were several instances (before he was subbed) where he could have passed the ball down the flank to Beckham to cross. Instead his attempts at crossing did not reap rewards.
3. Argentina's midfield communicates by passing the ball around the midfielders. That's something not witnessed between Gerrard and Lampard.
England's midfield looks good on paper but not in practice and as a result Owen suffers from lack of service. -

England just relax relax.... but when the time comes, they will rise to the occasion. The occasion is the final of world cup finals -
what is this lack of service that owen is moaning about. football these days is about self serivce. given the midget that he is, any ball that comes into the box he is always second best. the defenders will over shadow him. crouch is a bloody clown, a disgrace to the spider community. the ultimate blame comes down to sven, and mclaren is not the answer.
