there's no glory in winning anymore...Originally posted by prso:Lol, few more years down the road, national teams all over the world, esp the richer ones will adopt the same 'foreign talent' strategy as Singapore. Singapore merely leads the way....
Just take table tennis, countries like USA, Australia, UK plus Singapore are heavily relying on players from PRC.
You see the point? Singapore has imported players because its rich and attractive.
Crouch doing all that?Originally posted by weiqimun:it all boils down to the development system in place. if we dun have a good development system of grooming young players, then we have no choice of `importing' players. sg is a case in point. our nsa's are so incompetant tht the only viable way getting success is buying success. what i find distasteful is they all make it into a damn big deal when sg wins. still, this depends on ctries and sports. for e.g., i dun think ingerland will take in a naturalized brazilian in their squad. too proud. even appointing non-english manager alredi got problem. but in other sports, they may be less opinionated.
back to the topic, i dun think they are so dispicable that u can be `anti-ingelish'. u dun hv to like them and that shld be it. i dun lk ingerland, but i wan to see liverpool players do well regardless.
i dun want them to win the wc but if they do and crouch scored a stunning winner; dribbling past 4 players, escape a sliding tackle from the 5th, then rounded the golkeeper before flicking it into the empty net on the 89th minute after hobbling for the last 20min due to horrific tackle, well, i will be happy for ingerland.
The thing is majority of people wants to read about them. We are in an english speaking country like sg and we follow the premier league at least most of us... Their newspapers & web pages carry news about their national team which is normal, it is us who go and read them, our own ST reprint these news cos they know it has interest locally and it helps to sell newspapers (at least the afternoon newpaper)Originally posted by alwaysdisturbed:i still beg to differ. just look at hw much media coverage rooney gt for his injury? even fifa gave eng an extended deadline for their squad list. i dun see nedved, lahm, ljunberg or any other players or teams getting such stuffs going on....
i agree the spanish team has been disappointing over the years but their situation is almost like any other big teams, france, italy, germany, holland....
Spain were European Champions once, during the 60sOriginally posted by zocoss:The thing is majority of people wants to read about them. Fifa didn't give just england time to replace a player, it has nothing to do with rooney, It gave every team till the last day to replace an injure player due to training or otherwise... Spain replace Asier Del Horno 2 days before the games started.
Like i said, If you were a spainish reader, you would be reading, hearing & seeing the spainish team much more its just that we don't read spainish so the interest there is handicap where language is concern.
Lastly, i don't quite understand when you said "spanish team has been disappointing over the years but their situation is almost like any other big teams, france, italy, germany, holland"....
Apart from holland who never won the world cup but have won the European Cup, france, italy, germany and england have done so. So how is their situation almost like? Spain has never won anything yet till now, maybe it might change this time.
Really! i didn't know that one... Too long ago i guess. It seems like people have forgotten about it with so much disappointment over the last 20 years ...Originally posted by JusStatic:Spain were European Champions once, during the 60s
I agree and i also think lanpard should be drop in place of carrick. Gerrard should be playing in lampards current position, should be better cos lampard is selfish, he don't pass the ball to owen or rooney, he likes to try shots himself even if the strikers are in a better position than him. Owen today complaint that he is not getting the service of his midfielders. Always long balls to crouch only.Originally posted by F.raon.I.R:ENGLAND....they will be a better team without their stupid manager sven goran ericksson...his tactics juz sux big time..those long balls he ask his players to play..he thinks juz becoz of crouch's height he can take advantage of that n always ask him to knock down for owen to score.shit la...Crouch's goals more come frm headers but study carefully u will noe his heading ability sux more than owen hu is at least 20+cm shorter than him...Crouch scores with his head now n then coz he has like 10 chances ,only the 11th time he will convert them.N the long ball tactic dun work.Eng should play with more flair.Gerrad should now move forward more n lampard defend more as lampard only noes how to take pot shots.at least gerrad drives the team on n make some nice thru passes to team mates.Sad to say gerrad n lampard dun compliment each other when they play together for england.Beckham plays well as long as his crosses lead to goals...The defence looks gd,rio will do well under the leadership of john terry.England yup they r overrated but they can definitely do well without those suxing long direct ball tactics.Creativity n flair!
so fifa gave every team time to replace any injured player. i seriously didn't noe dat...only noe abt rooney's case. this is wat i'm tryin to say, there's too much emphasis on eng over here...Originally posted by zocoss:The thing is majority of people wants to read about them.
