I'm not so sure, actually - if history is anything to go by, the odds are stacked against Nadal to defend his crown. Kuerten was the last player to defend his title back in 2001, but even he failed to defend his maiden triumph when he won it as a teenager back in 1997. Then again, neither did Michael Chang( '89 ) or Mats Wilander( '88 ) who both won their maiden French Open crowns in their youth.Originally posted by LBextreme:Most likely Nadal will win again~
King of clay~!
But i hope Federer will somehow win his first french open~! ^__^
You're right - Federer has lost 3 matches this year and all of them were against Nadal.Originally posted by LBextreme:recently, about 2-3 weeks ago, they already had an Epic final.
In italy(Rome) i think, in the Atp masters series Final.
Nadal vs Federer..
5 sets, 5+hrs.
Federer had chance to win in the 4th set, but blew 2 championship points i think.
Then in the 5th and deciding set, federer was leading at first, but nadal fought back to win 6-4 in the final set.
Forgive my statistical errors, my memory ain't that good. lol
Or maybe.. Gaudio might win again?
i think he won the last French open. ^^
hehe hopefully.Originally posted by walesa:You're right - Federer has lost 3 matches this year and all of them were against Nadal.
He lost 3-1 in the Monte Carlo Masters final and lost 3-2 in the Rome Masters final, but as you pointed out, he has been edging closer and closer to beating Nadal.
Gaudio's win in 2004 was a fluke IMO. Nadal won it last year, and hopefully Federer will win it this time around - Federer will start his campaign against Hartfield today...![]()
Yup, but no mouth-watering clashes today, I suppose. All pretty straightforward unless the big guns decide to go AWOL mentally.Originally posted by LBextreme:hehe hopefully.
1st round starting later at 5pm i think. Wonder if there are any good match-ups.
and somehow Hewitt.. has disappeared into the void.
Federer's certainly the most technically gifted and complete player I've had the privilege of watching - when he's on top of his game, he is simply peerless(and I don't just mean when he's compared with those still currently playing).Originally posted by BillyBong:Rafael Nadal is in his element on clay but Federer is an all-round player, complete with wicked drop shots, net play, baseline returns and a strong serve.
The draw has been kinder to Federer than to Nadal.
Still i expect these two to slug it out in the finals.![]()
amazing considering the top 4 seeds are in the semis. can't wait for the aniticipated showdown between Federer and Nadal.Originally posted by walesa:In spite of all the hype about the World Cup, surely, someone out there follows tennis?
With the French Open hotting up with a Federer-Nalbandian and Nadal-Ljubicic SF today(yeah, setting up a hotly anticipated Federer-Nadal final on Sunday), the climax of the tourny could hardly be more enthralling...![]()
