Most likely Nadal will win again~

I'm not so sure, actually - if history is anything to go by, the odds are stacked against Nadal to defend his crown. Kuerten was the last player to defend his title back in 2001, but even he failed to defend his maiden triumph when he won it as a teenager back in 1997. Then again, neither did Michael Chang( '89 ) or Mats Wilander( '88 ) who both won their maiden French Open crowns in their youth.Originally posted by LBextreme:Most likely Nadal will win again~

Of course, Nadal is as good, if not better, as any of those and should be better poised to defend his title - then again, he's just up against someone who will most probably go on to become the greatest player to have ever played the game of tennis. Here's hoping Federer will become the first player since Rod Laver to hold all 4 Grand Slams at once too, but more importantly, set up an epic final with Nadal on June 11th.

recently, about 2-3 weeks ago, they already had an Epic final.
In italy(Rome) i think, in the Atp masters series Final.
Nadal vs Federer..
5 sets, 5+hrs.
Federer had chance to win in the 4th set, but blew 2 championship points i think.
Then in the 5th and deciding set, federer was leading at first, but nadal fought back to win 6-4 in the final set.
Forgive my statistical errors, my memory ain't that good. lol
Or maybe.. Gaudio might win again?

He lost 3-1 in the Monte Carlo Masters final and lost 3-2 in the Rome Masters final, but as you pointed out, he has been edging closer and closer to beating Nadal.
Gaudio's win in 2004 was a fluke IMO. Nadal won it last year, and hopefully Federer will win it this time around - Federer will start his campaign against Hartfield today...

1st round starting later at 5pm i think. Wonder if there are any good match-ups.

Rafael Nadal is in his element on clay but Federer is an all-round player, complete with wicked drop shots, net play, baseline returns and a strong serve.
The draw has been kinder to Federer than to Nadal.
Still i expect these two to slug it out in the finals.

Hewitt, along with Roddick, is one of those top players who never made the grade for claycourt tennis anyway - so I don't think he's someone the French Open will miss too much. But his form this year has dipped somewhat since he became a dad too... -

Sadly, it just wasn't meant to be...
I hope Federer will still win the French Open someday and that what has happened over the last 2 years will hopefully not have etched an indelible psychological scar on him to the point that he never puts himself in a position to win the French Open again. It'd be a pity if the most gifted player to have ever picked up a tennis racquet cannot win the Grand Slam...
