Chelsea are set to open talks with Frank Lampard over a new deal after this summer's World Cup finals.
The Blues are keen to tie down their star midfielder to a new long-term contract to ward off potential suitors of the England international.
The recent arrival of Michael Ballack at Stamford Bridge has raised question marks over Lampard's future with some suggesting he may move on.
However, Lampard's agent Steve Kutner revealed he has spoken to Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon about a new deal for the former West Ham man.
"I have spoken to Peter Kenyon and we are looking to sit down shortly after the World Cup to continue talking about a new contract for Frank," Kutner told the News of the World.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are being linked with a shock move for Manchester United star Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Blues chief Jose Mourinho is in the market for a new striker with doubts hanging over the futures of Hernan Crespo and Didier Drogba.
Milan ace Andrei Shevchenko is widely thought to be Chelsea's top target, but they could face a fight for his signature with the Italian side determined to keep hold of their talismanic striker.
Reports now claim Mourinho could switch his attentions to van Nistelrooy who looks almost certain to leave Old Trafford after a fall-out with Sir Alex Ferguson.
Van Nistelrooy was axed for the final game of the season against Charlton and also missed Roy Keane's testimonial after a row with Ferguson.
United are ready to let the Dutchman go and they could consider a deal with Chelsea as they are thought to be keen on Blues forward Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Gudjohnsen is down the pecking order at Chelsea and he is hoping to move on for regular first team football.
Ferguson is thought to be a big fan of the Icelandic international and could try to engineer a swap involving van Nistelrooy for Gudjohnsen. -
it is better to sign RVN than shevchenko who cost tens of millions.

maybe chelsea should consider bellamy.

all the players linked to chelsea may be big names but some are quite certainly a turn-off. carlos is way past his prime, ashley cole is one bapok, rvn has got this look only a horse would love. while i'm sure mourhino can better handle these guys than their managers could i don't think chelsea fans can appreciate them.
drogba, for all his theaterics is a solid player in his own right. not the best finisher but he compensates with his assists and defending. his role is more of a attacking midfielder and i reckon that's why chelsea midfield usually wins the batttle. as a team, they are not short of goals and to keel over just for a striker is a mistake in my opinion. with ballack bolstering the pack now, even mourihno's grandmother could sccore if she's still breathing.
other than footballing reasons, chelsea are getting big names to sell shirts. wenger may be superb with young players but i think the arsenal board is very relieved to have kept their best shirt selling player. -
You are right. I hope chelsea buys carlos, shevchenko & even RVN and sell Drogba & Gallas. Imagine carlos... old & slow already, shevchenko pass his best days & RVN a very lazy & selfish player and also losing his best form as he reach 30 alrdy. All these 3 players may be able to sell lots of shirts in the short term but they are no longer at the top of their game and they also have big egos. Losing Drogba & Gallas will be extremely huge. Drogba is a good player, he is not selfish, put team before self & strong in the air. Gallas: their best defender. as good as terry in the centre but also very good at left & right back where terry can never play effectively at all. So i hope this deal go throught... They will spend extremely huge money to get these 3 old Jokers not to mention their salary & get nothing much from them but only trouble in the dressing room as they all are Big name players so won't like sitting on the bench. -
thats y i prefer drogba and gallas to stay..and maybe bring in one more striker to replace crespo or the damn calton cole..

Yay... looks like the begining of the purchase of the 3 old mens have started. Today shevchenko said he will be leaving Milan and going to chelsea... soon carlos will follow & hopefully even RVN. Shevchenko at 30 is alrdy pass his best. I think Milan secretly wants to get rid of him... Where to find $30 million for a 30 yrs old player. The begining of the problems for chelsea.

Haha... the stupidest thing to do is exchange Gallas & Drogba to AC Milan for a 30 yrs old shevchenko. Even if he do well this year he would probably be over by next cos strikers normally go downhill once they reach 30yrs old. And with Gallas being a defender can play till much older & Drogba, much younger the shev will probably be in their current form for a much longer time at least.
