Paul Dickov: No more goals for Rovers
The veteran striker, who scored seven goals last season for Mark Hughes' side, is expected to sign for Manchester City in the next few days after he decided not to take up the offer of a new two-year deal.
Both Sheffield United and Everton are also believed to be interested in the player but a return to his former club looks the most likely.
Rovers' chairman, John Williams told the Lancashire Evening Post: 'Paul has been released by the club after he decided not to accept our offer of a new contract.
'I don't think there was any problem with the terms we offered him, it was more of a football decision.
'We'd like to thank Paul for his efforts over the last two years, and we wish him all the best for the future.' -
Benfica midfielder Armando Petit claims he is aware of interest from Manchester United, despite denials from assistant manager Carlos Queiroz.
The United number two dismissed suggestions that the Portugal international is one of the candidates to arrive at Old Trafford this summer.
However, Petit, a busy and energetic runner, reckons he has an opportunity to link up with international colleague Cristiano Ronaldo in Manchester next term.
"I am happy at Benfica but I know of the interest from Manchester United and other teams," he told the media whilst preparing for Portugal's World Cup campaign.
"Anyone would like to play for Manchester United.
"If a proposal appears that is good for me and Benfica, I have the possibility to leave.
"My future will be resolved in the next two or three weeks."
Queiroz, himself a target for Benfica, has already shot down the likelihood of the 29-year-old coming to United with Mahamadou Diarra understood to be Sir Alex Ferguson's number one target.
Lyon signed midfielder Jeremy Toulalan for €7 million (£4.75 million) on Friday and are expected to allow Diarra to leave if United follow up their interest with a massive offer. -
Cruzeiro have denied reports that talented prodigy Kerlon is on his way to Manchester United.
The Times claimed the exciting Brazilian, known for balancing the ball on his head whilst running towards goal, was close to sealing a £6 million switch to Old Trafford.
Cruzeiro president Alvimar Perrella has refuted the story by stressing that there have been no approaches for Kerlon or team-mate Edu Dracena, despite being quoted in The Times as confirming contact with a Premiership side.
"In fact, we were not looked for by Manchester, or any other English club, to deal with the sale of Kerlon or Edu Dracena," he told reporters in his homeland.
The Red Devils have been actively scouring Brazil for fresh blood with Fluminense's teenaged twins Fabio and Rafael agreeing a deal to join the club in three years' time.
However, any concrete deal for Kerlon looks to be a long way off at the moment.
South American sources also quote a United scout as stating: "I found this news article odd because The Times is a serious newspaper and does not invent news. This information, with certainty, was planted by an agent." -

Fenerbahce planning to swoop for Campbell
Arsenal defender Sol Campbell is a target for Turkish club Fenerbahce, according to reports.
The 31-year-old England centre-half is rumoured to have been offered a three-year deal worth £70,000 a week.
Campbell's stock has fallen considerably in recent months - culminating when he walked out of February's match against West Ham at Highbury at half-time and then went missing for several days - after a difficult season coping with injury and off-field problems.
He has three years to run on a deal he only signed last year but it has been reported sources at Fenerbahce have claimed vice-president Mahmut Uslu met Campbell's agent Sky Andrew in Germany to discuss personal terms.
Campbell controversially joined Arsenal from arch-rivals Tottenham on a free transfer in 2001 after allowing his contract to run down at White Hart Lane.
Fenerbahce later released a statement, which neither confirmed or denied the reported interest.
The Turkish club did, however, insist that a deal would not be imminent.
'Rumours that we have agreed all terms with Arsenal FC's Sol Campbell are untrue,' said the statement on their website.
'Claims that the player concerned will be arriving in Turkey to complete the deal do not reflect the truth.'
Dont believe that arsenal would not offload him if the price is right. If the offer comes and sol wants to move..Im quite sure taht it would be a deal...

Widespread reports on Monday claimed Fenerbahce had held talks with Campbell over a possible move to Turkey.
The Turkish giants were believed to be ready to offer Campbell a lucrative contract to lure him away from Arsenal.
Campbell's future at Arsenal has been the subject of speculation for some time after he went AWOL for a few days in February.
The England international, who scored in last week's UEFA Champions League final defeat to Barcelona, still has three years to run on his contract at Arsenal.
Fenerbahce have moved to clear up the speculation insisting they have not agreed a deal for Campbell.
"The reports in various media ... that Campbell has reached a deal with our club on every subject and will come to Turkey to sign in the coming days do not reflect the realities," read a statement on the club's official website.
Campbell's representative Sky Andrew was in the dark about the link with Fenerbahce.
"I know nothing about it," Andrew told skysports.com. -

Skysports.com can confirm Tottenham are keen on signing Ivory Coast international Didier Zokora.
Zokora looks set to leave St Etienne in the summer after agreeing a deal to move on.
There is sure to be no shortage of suitors for Zokora with the player impressing a number of sides with his performances for club and country over the last few years.
Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with Zokora in the past, but the player's agent Franck Belhassen has confirmed Tottenham have joined the chase for the powerful midfielder's signature.
"There is interest from a number of clubs in Didier and Tottenham are one of them," Belhassen told skysports.com.
"At the moment he is away with the Ivory Coast preparing for the World Cup and we will wait until after that before deciding his future.
"We have a deal with St Etienne that he can go this summer for the right price.
"The World Cup is a very good opportunity for Didier to show clubs what he can do and we will see what happens.
"Tottenham is a very interesting club as they are an improving club with a good manager like Martin Jol.
"There are also big clubs in France and Spain looking at Didier and he wants to play at a good club."
Zokora has previously expressed an interest in playing in England and Tottenham could firm up their interest in the player after next month's World Cup finals as they look to build on last season's fifth place finish. -
Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt has expressed a desire to join Newcastle United.
The Holland international is among Magpies manager Glenn Roeder's top transfer targets as he prepares for his first full season in charge.
Roeder revealed his admiration for the 25-year-old in April and confirmed he was having the prolific hit-man scouted.
The Newcastle boss has now been given the incentive to pursue his interest after Kuyt confirmed a wish to move to St James' Park.
"I would love to play in the North East," stated Kuyt.
"When I was young, I loved Italian football, but only because van Basten, Rijkaard and Gullit were playing for AC Milan.
"Now, I'd rather play in England. I love English football. I also think my style of play is completely right for The Premiership.
"A club like Newcastle would be my dream."
Kuyt would arrive in The Premiership with cast-iron credentials after hitting at least 20 goals in each of the past four seasons.
He is unlikely to come cheap, however, and Roeder is likely to have to persuade Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd to spend in excess of £10 million to bring Kuyt to Tyneside. -
