Dear Residents,
CRIME ALERT – THEFT FROM VEHICLE TARGETING LAPTOPS
Recently, there had been an increase in the number of theft from vehicle cases where laptops were stolen at Geylang, Bugis, Beach Road and Kallang. It is believed that the culprit would loiter around the car parking lots to observe car movement.
2. After a vehicle owner parks his car and leaves, the culprit would approach the car to observe if the owner had left his laptop inside. If he finds a laptop, the culprit would smash the vehicle’s window to steal the laptop in a matter of seconds. In one case, the owner had left his car for only 10 minutes when he returned to discover his car window smashed and laptop stolen.
3. While Police are closely monitoring the situation and some arrests had been made, the crime is still occurring. It is important that car owners adopt the following crime prevention measures to prevent themselves from becoming the next victim:
a. Do not leave your laptop lying exposed in your vehicle. As far as possible, always carry it with you. Otherwise, it should be locked in the car boot;
b. Keep a record of the serial numbers of valuable items such as laptops, handphones (IMEI no.) and/or cash cards. These will help the police in investigations;
c. Install an anti-theft alarm in your vehicle for added protection.
4. If you have any information on the above cases or wish to report any suspicious person(s) loitering within the vicinity, do not hesitate to contact Singapore Police Force at 1800 – 255 0000.

well, they deserve it, since they stupid enough to leave laptop in the car.
well for most people, their mentality is..
"it will never happen to me"..
Better to be safe than never.
Good luck to those who have their laptops stolen. If it's not protected, I guess all your important documents + passwords are probably stolen.
And be prepared to eat fried cuttlefish if sensitive data are leaked to rivals.

better still. get the lenovo one that has the face recognition thing. cannot use photo one. have to be the real person physcially there.
password for windows login can be stolen. Also experts know how to reformat the laptop for his own use if you have no additional encrpytion at BIOS level.
bottomline use common sense....me nvr lost an item in my life....except dropped some coins in the taxi...shucks
Sorry to add, thief do have other method of stealing laptop beside just observing. There is such device that able to sense the presence of your laptop which is stored in your car hidden or exposed. Laptop hidden under seat and locked in trunk can be easily located by such sensor.
