Ridiculous policy by Singtel

My friend and his mum went down to Singtel to sign a plan for the iphone 8gb on mid high end plan about 90sgd a month and was told that she had to pay 800sgd as a deposit. When they asked for nokia 5800, they was told that she had to place 450sgd deposit!
I never know that Sinaporean had to place a deposit for contract with the service line.

well.. tell you the truth is that singapore dont. i dont even need to place any deposit. and please do a full check up before you say anything. There is only one case that singtel want his customer to place desposit before using their service. that is the customer had own them alot of unpay bill in the past when using their service. the only thing bad is they dont care who use it.. as long as it your name, they will make it as you are using it. let me give you a example. my friend use to use singtel service. but she alway never pay the bill and end up owning singtel a few hundred dollar. then she change to starhub but never pay that unpay bill. so singtel send her a lawyer letter telling her that if she didn't pay that balance, they will have to sue her. so no choice she went to pay up the balance. and that left a bad record of her. so if she wanna use back singtel service, she will have to pay a desposit as the amount as you had listed in your post. that is to prevent that she never pay the bill again. UNDERSTAND?!?!

Well, it was my friend's mom who is signing the line... and she had never owe any singtel bills before.
And it had been a matter of fact from the past that we don't have to place deposit unless in the case of a foreigner.

then check whether she use her name to open any line for other to use b4 or not. if no. then better call them up and ask why they need the desposit. i am sure that had make a mistake.

They were at the big singtel outlet near comcenter. I believe that the staffs did not make any mistake on the information. No past debts unpaid... that is why I say ridiculous...

so if you going to pay anyway why not just pay the deposit?
