Frenchman not in squad to face City
William Gallas has lost his Arsenal captaincy and will not play against Manchester City.
The move comes after Gallas spoke of unrest in the Arsenal camp on Thursday, including details of a bust-up during half-time in the recent 4-4 draw with Tottenham.
A number of former players have been quick to criticise Gallas for the outburst and it now appears as though Arsene Wenger has acted quickly to discipline the French defender.
It was initially understood that Gallas had been stripped of the captaincy, but reports later suggested that he may have offered to step down at a team meeting.
Gallas, who was handed the armband at the start of last season, will not travel with the rest of the squad ahead of Saturday's game at Man City.
The latest development raises doubts about Gallas' future with the club, just two years after he joined the Gunners from Chelsea.
Arsenal have yet to confirm the news but there is speculation that goalkeeper Manuel Almunia will lead out the side against City.

Redknapp - Gallas was wrong
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes William Gallas should have kept dressing room problems in-house.
The Arsenal skipper revealed there was a bust-up at half-time in the Gunners' 4-4 draw with Spurs, as well as other problems in the squad.
But Redknapp believes such issues should have remained in-house and Gallas should have spoken to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about his concerns.
Redknapp said: "What happens in the dressing room should be kept in-house. If you have a problem you should talk to your manager.
Too quick
"Too often now players are too quick to run to the press. Get on with the job and play football, if there is a problem then sort it out.
"There are always arguments in dressing rooms. The great teams have people sorting problems out, making the job easy for the manager.
"Roy Keane at Manchester United; Arsenal with Frank McLintock. They would be sorting out the problems. If anyone can sort it out, Arsene Wenger can but I'm sure he wants to concentrate on the football."

U know right that all the players can turn dirty.then u say toure for what?his shirt kena pulled,he unhappy lor.u said that which player wont get dirty.so Toure was just reacting to his shirt being pulled. -

William Gallas is in contention to figure in Arsenal's game against Dynamo Kiev, but will not captain the team.
The French defender's future at the Emirates Stadium has become a hot topic of debate after his public criticism of his team-mates in midweek.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger left Gallas out of his squad for Saturday's defeat at Manchester City and stripped the 31-year-old of the captaincy.
Wenger declined to comment on the former Chelsea defender's situation after the 3-0 loss at the City of Manchester Stadium, but chairman Peter Hill-Wood has backed whatever action the manager decides to take.
