The Premier League
side's boss, Arsène Wenger, is keen to sign a midfielder to control the
centre of his young team and has list of several names, according to
reports in England.
De la Red is included on that despite
lacking the experience that the French coach stated he wanted because
of the maturity that he showed during an impressive season with Getafe.
At
23, the Spanish international is yet to be given a chance at the
Bernabéu after rising through the club's youth team ranks and has
tasted international success before anything at club level.
A
part of Luis Aragonés' squad for the Euro 2008, De la Red looked calm
and composed at the highest level and that is also said to have
impressed Wenger.
When asked about what his next step
would be if Arsenal made their move, De la Red made it clear that he
would not be adverse to trying his luck in England.
“I am not closing the door to any team. I like the Premier League and the way they play their football," he said.
According
to reports on Wednesday, Wenger is also monitoring Everton's move for
João Moutinho but the Sporting and Benfica star would certainly command
a higher fee that De la Red.
