The Frenchman was
roundly criticised after suffering a break-down of sorts in the
tumultous 2-2 draw at Birmingham last term and his leadership style
subsequently questioned by fans and neutrals alike, but Wenger insists
that he is standing by his man.
"If he plays, he will be captain," said Wenger during Friday afternoon’s press conference ahead of the Emirates Cup.
"If he does not play, it will be somebody else. But William will be the club captain, yes."
Gallas,
30, succeeded Thierry Henry as Arsenal captain, in what was a
surprising and not exactly overwhelmingly popular decision among the
fans.
Gallas, himself, has admitted that he has made some
mistakes along the way, but insists that he has learned from them and
generally has been making all the right noises during pre-season about
becoming a better leader going forward.
hope he really learnt his lesson and improve. chances dont come so often
sad to say... we might suffer another trophyless season becos of wenger's bias decision of selection of wrong capt.
