Manuel Almunia's solid
displays in the red and white colours of North London prompted Emirates
fans to chant his name for an England shirt, last season.
With
England lacking a pool of top class glovesmen for Capello to choose
from, the Italian technician may be keen to test out the Spaniard in
between the sticks for the Three Lions.
Almunia is yet to
recieve a call-up to his home nation, and seeing as Casillas and Valdes
would be ahead of him in the pecking order, he may be waiting a long
time.
The 31-year stopper receives a British passport on the
29th of December 2008, just in time to play a key part in England's
World Cup qualifying campaing, should Capello grow tiresome of David
James.
Earlier in the year, Almunia is even quoted by The Mirror as saying: "If Capello is interested in me for the national team, I'm ready to immediately apply for English citizenship."
Should
he not get the call-up to England, Almunia would still be legible to
play for Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland, due to the nature of the
British passport.
good news for arsenal, bad news for england
