The Arsenal manager
forced Ferguson to rethink his summer strategy when he secured the
signing of Manchester United target Aaron Ramsey for ₤5million, having
devilishly lured the Welsh teenager over to Switzerland to discuss the
deal.
And the Red Devils boss will have to be on his toes if he
wishes to avoid a repeat, as the Daily Mail is reporting that Wenger
has set his sights on Santa Cruz.
The Paraguayan international
has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, as
United are keen to sign a reliable target-man to finally fill the void
left by Ruud van Nistelrooy’s departure in 2006.
The 26-year-old
scored 23 goals during his debut season with Rovers, and it is thought
his value has at least tripled since his ₤3.5million move for Bayern
Munich last summer.
Hence, Wenger is lining up a ₤10million bid
for Santa Cruz, as it seems increasingly likely that he will be without
Emmanuel Adebayor next season, the Togo striker having reportedly
agreed terms with AC Milan.
