Many observers believe
the Frenchman has not invested heavily enough in the transfer market in
recent years, and his biggest buys last summer were Eduardo da Silva
(₤8.5 million) and Bacary Sagna (₤6 million).
The Gunners have
recently been linked with the likes of Valencia striker David Villa and
Werder Bremen playmaker Diego, raising supporters' hopes of a big-name
buy this time around.
But while Wenger admitted there will be a few notable additions during the off-season, he claimed the important thing is bringing in suitable, high-quality players rather than hyped-up primadonnas.
"I think a huge player is better than a huge name," said Wenger. "You have huge names who produce very little at the moment.
"There is plenty of demand from players who want to join us and what we need next year is two or three maybe."
The
former Monaco boss has been criticised for his youth policy ever since
the Gunners’ once-impressive campaign collapsed during the second half
of the season.
But when asked if he will seek to draft in
experienced personnel, Wenger replied: "We just need talent," which
suggests he will remain steadfast in his youth-oriented approach.
