Cesc Fabregas has opened negotiations with Arsenal that could be worth £33 million to the young Spaniard. With Barcelona monitoring their former midfielder's progress, Fabregas has revealed that he has opened negotiations aimed at increasing considerably his existing deal at the Emirates Stadium
Fabregas is currently earning around £50,000 a week, a figure fixed when he signed an eight-year contract extension two years ago. Now, if he can complete talks with Arsenal, one of the brightest talents in British football could be expected to increase that to around £80,000 a week and a further two-year extension, keeping Fabregas at Arsenal until 2016.
Fabregas, 21, said: "I have a contract in force until 2014, I have six years remaining and I am talking with my club, who are interested in re-negotiating it. I want to succeed at Arsenal and that the club wants me is fundamental for me."
"I am proud to be linked to Barcelona," added Fabregas. "I am from Barcelona and I have played there. But now I only think of winning as many titles as possible here."
Fabregas joined Arsenal, from Barcelona, in September 2003, and made his debut a month later against Rotherham in the League Cup at the age of 16 years and 177 days to become the club's youngest ever first-team player.
But, while one youngster is contemplating a settled future, another senior player, who was expected to be in opposition at the Emirates Stadium next week is, instead, fighting to save his career.
Liam Brady wants to sit down with Giovanni Trapattoni before committing himself to the incoming coaching staff of the Republic of Ireland.
Brady, who won 72 caps for the Republic, does not want to give up his role as academy director at Arsenal, but would consider joining his former manager at Juventus on a part-time basis.
Trapattoni has already started piecing together his boot-room team has appointed Marco Tardelli, the former Italian World Cup-winning midfielder, as his assistant manager. Claudio Gentile, who was initially linked to the role, has decided he wants to resume his own managerial career.
